Not good news about ngatai. Hopefully those issues clear up soon.
I wonder if the real debate will start when the team is named for the first test. I guess it will depend on there being surprises or not. However that selection is looking pretty straightforward now with ngatai out.

Overall its a good squad.
Luatua unlucky but squire looks to have a lot of upside.
Romano lucky imo but looks like they have an eye on Barrett which is good. Didn't see the Franklin selection coming.

Also didn't see them picking Tamanivalu over Moala. Especially with a bit of a question mark over 14. Guess both get a shot now.

Tough news for Ngatai. The stuff website states he "was released to work through concussion symptoms." Rennie seemed confident last week that he could play this weekend (if there was a game) but these things have a worrying tendency to drag out week after week.

If they've ruled him out already, he must be clearly some way away from contact and Moala needs the full induction. I'd have thought the ABs are predominantly in the classroom (and the gym) this week rather than on the training paddock, introducing the new vision, mission statement, strategies, tactics, structures, Wales must be respected, etc.

Especially they need to remind each new player that his ability to bash fanny has just tripled.

Work still to do obviously, but I've heard a number of medics and Rugby officials in the UK say NZ leading a lot of research and procedures into these issues. Also I've spoken to a couple of All Blacks about the support they've received over several years.

think the Kieran Read concussion a couple of years ago when the Crusaders and All Blacks weren't selecting him shows that NZ considers player safety really important

Ok seems like nz rugby talk has dropped off a cliff since the squad was announced and thefust settled. So the team for the first test. Who will it be? Are they going to roll with the top team first up then give others a shot in the second and third games?
Would guess the first team is pretty settled with the only question marks being Crockett vs Moody. Sam Whitelocks replacement if he doesnt play and the right wing, although Naholo would have to be front runner. With Ngatai out it delays that midfield question.

I guess the bench is where we might see a new guy for that wing/midfield spot.

Most importantly when is the team named?

I think the comment has been made from the coaches that they are going to run a conservative 23 for Test 1.

I saw somewhere today that Whitelock is progressing well and is becoming an option for Test 1.
