Statistically yes. I haven't followed this subject for years, but most academic research seemed to conclude that anywhere between 1-10% of the population is gay, and the studies that place the "gay population" at the high end of this range included people as "gay" where they had "gay thoughts" even once in their life.

I suspect there's some pretty significant filters and there would be significantly less gay ABs than average in the same way as I suspect there might be more gay blokes than average working in theatre.

Yes, exactly. So the "first gay All Black" might have been or he might still be a person into the future.

The gay inclusive policy thing is hardly likely to boost playing strength and, as I have said before, is borne out of societal expectations and for the good of the grass roots.

It's more likely to be at the 11 end of those figures than 120 I reckon . For most of the abs history it's been a crime to be gay in NZ for a start.

My cousins a builder and gay , we all figured it out when he was a teenager . His dad didn't till his son was about 40 , I think the penny finally dropped when he'd had the same flat mate for three different houses that they renovated together and his " flat mate " knitted a shawl for his grand daughter .

I think I must be a bit of a reluctant conservative in this regard, because if my son was homosexual, I would struggle with it. I would get over it, and I wouldnt ever let him know .. but I would be a bit wierded out by it. Doesnt make any logical sense, but them the breaks.

Of course him and his partner would be welcome in the house and made to feel welcome.. but I wouldn't like to see them displaying PDA. Of course that would be my fault and issue, but meh, hopefully he would understand.

To be fair, in terms of PDA, I doubt you would be that keen to see that in front of you even he does fluke it and become Hetro :)

I get that, I think I would be very similar. At the end of the day he's still your child and deserves your love and support.

Except of course if he becomes a green mp or starts supporting Canterbury/Auckland. Then I'd disown him.

If I had kids, the gender of a special friend they brought home would be the last thing in the world to concern me, but that could be cos I've had my bi times.

I'd be dangling the shotgun until assured the friend was a person of good character, gainfully employed, and made my kid happy.

So if they didn't come out due to being criminalised that doesn't count as gay?
