Purple are defined by āSmoke on the Waterā, itās the song people think when they think of them.
Thatās life.
As is often the case they have ( in my opinion ) an absolute truckload of songs that are heaps better. The entire āDeep Purple in Rockā album as one example ( apart from āinto the fireā perhaps )

There were a lot of songs that were overplayed on the radio back then & these days too... reckon you appreciate a song like this more when you haven't listened to it for a fair while.

I agree with you about SOTW (like Stairway to Heaven for Led Zep) but it's not even the best track on Machine Head.
Indeed. Fairly sure Iāve brought this up on here before. Both āsignature songsā are totally overplayed.
@NZbloke not sure how youāve avoided āSmoke on the Waterā for years, I hear it all the time when channel surfing in the car !

Good old fishbone. Theyāll be thrilled to be in such company. The bassist from them gives online bass lessons on Facebook now.
Dream on is about Aerosmithās only good song, Big Gun is a bit of a banger from AC/DC and Alice in Chains, Megadeth and Cypress Hill always deliver
