@Stargazer Very little difference in the current ways team are set up between front row and the lock jersey. However the lock (13) should have better balls skills as is often used as a link player, hitting up but not taking the tackle and often passing behind. Edge backrowers 11, 12 are different and currently tend to be forwards that could play in the centers or ex centers, again generally breaking or creating gaps. Ironically given Leo's background he could probably play on the edge, but since he started at prop, playing at 13 would be good for him.

yeah 8, 10, and 13 are just middle forwards really.

      shamelessly stolen from elsewhere

Here's a few Warriors stats for the season to cheer us all up

      • 16th in run metres
      • 16th in offloads
      • 16th in tackle breaks
      • 16th in decoy runs
      • 2nd most missed tackles
      • 13th in line breaks, and 15th in line break assists.

Which is damning on the coaching staff, and the halves.
And highlights the complete lack of attacking ability in the backline.

I don't agree with that it highlights the complete lack of attacking ability in our backline, however I agree with the rest. Its amazing how good a team can look if every player knows where they need to run in advance in a play. Most successful attacking raids do require decoys and halves calling plays, none of which looks like it is obviously happening well (if at all). The Storm who are the best at executing a plan, know what is required on almost every play, which makes average players look like world beaters. When they go to other teams they normally show how average they are.

Our offload execution has been poor as well. When we have tried to offload, I would suggest without knowing we probably lead the ineffective offload statistic. Coupled with the fact that we have not being doing many is a worry as tabled then that shows we are not not getting much second phase ball, which also shows the importance of getting the structured plays right.

Im surprised there doesn't seem to much emphasis on defence either, I know some of our backline is young but they are making a lot of basic errors. However one thing that seems inbred in this team over many years, is once you are losing by a bit, throw in the towel. That is always disappointing.

Lack of execution- of any play from all involved is my biggest pain point. I never see enough decoy runners on hardly any play which does not help our halves either, if you only have one obvious target, a play is easy to shut down. If everyone is not executing that then should reflect on coaching which above all.

A calm head like Tohu back may help some defensive structure issues, but he is not going to fix the rest.

i think the run metres and the line breaks does show our guys aren't a serious danger, as even a structureless team can create linebreaks if they can beat a man (or just run through guys if you are Justin olam), but your point about our attacking structures was my shot at the coaches and the playmakers.

They way they quit as soon as it gets hard is damning.

Justin Morgan, who is in charge of the defence, was quoted before the Storm game as saying he was happy with the improvement in the defence. Great timing, of course. 🤣

One of the problems is how young and inexperienced the centres and back three are.

Which is why I agreed with the rest of your points, we pretty much agree on the same weaknesses They dont show it, but I would suggest we are also the worst at six-agains, which leads to runs and run/metres. AFB is still one of the best in post contact metres but lacks support.

Do we have a star center ..no, but we have scored tries out wide through passing, so thats why I am not so harsh on their individual game breaking. If the forwards were providing second phase ball and the halves calling plays and players were running where they should, even average centres can look good. Its just not happening enough.

another halves cripple fight this week.. or we might look Cody look good for the first time, after the sh*t we have been serving up

absolutely and not an easy position to get up to speed with quickly, clearly an oversight from management letting someone like Hiku go. Others not so much 🙂

                as the old saying goes

"you cannot stab a man in the back without getting behind him first"

The only reason we are a shout at play off football is because of how much the comp sucks.

We showed a bit of steel in the second half tonight. Four tries to one and we actually looked organised on both sides of the ball.

Panthers v Storm coming up. It’s been wet as up here in Brissy and I suspect this will be a defensive slog.

Storm getting embarrassed. A dominant performance from the Panthers. They have dominated possession and field position. Played the conditions better and nullified their forwards.

interesting weekend. Not sure many picking the Broncos to smash Manly, Penrith to smash Melbourne, nor Canberra to smash Cronulla.

Roosters got themselves back on track as well.

also, it appears the first coaching casualty will happen today, with the Dogs board meeting to discuss the coach

Trent Barrett is a proven failure coach, and a prime example of what i mean when i talk about the roundabout of failure that the shit clubs are on. Should never have been given another head coaching gig, and yet here we are.

The vultures are circling outside Belmore and Trent was always in the conversation for first coach sacked. He is clearly someone who interviews well, has worked well as an assistant somewhere, but cant deliver as a head coach anywhere..reminds me of Kearney.

I did pick Melbourne to get beaten especially after Hughes ruled out. I suspected Penrith might bounce back after their loss to Parra. Did not expect the smashing though.

The cows starting to get a bit of momentum now, will be interesting to see how they go against the big teams. Cotter going from being an underused bench player to potential Origin player in a few weeks.

As for the warriors, jeez they are tough to support and even coming from 20 odd points down and with dropping the ball twice over the line almost came up with a win when they should not have even been close. Great to see Montoya back starting, one of the few who looked ok throughout. You do wonder how far Brown is away from Barrett though in terms of time remaining

Yeah he looked like he has not only given up but now thinks his only play is pass kicks, perhaps time to lets the 19 year old have a run, could not do much worse. The only time he has looked good this year is taking a clutch kick under pressure to win games. Even if some of those games the only reason the opposition were in them, were because of his errors

                                      field goals? good
basically everything else? very very bad

Won't run, can't organise, incredibly poor option taking, no defense. No way anyone else does worse, and just a smidge of enthusiasm from a young player might actually spark something.

@mariner4life don't disagree, surely the hammys arent that bad that he thinks he is now a lead foot? it certainly looks like he is cement feet out there which impacts almost every other decision he makes

                                          deadset fuck these Aussie fluffybunnies

Lodge just walked out, because he doesn't want to live in NZ

Lodge is a fucking stain but he was also our most effective forward.

So that's 3 players now who signed with the NZ Warriors who are quitting as soon as they get to go back to NZ. Fuck them. The only future for this club is to focus on junior development in NZ.
