@Kirwan He had a bad game. Slotting the winning droppie doesn't make him a good 10.

I think your bias is showing again.

Well taken try, excellent defence (rugby is more than just attack) and worked hard to get us in the right parts of the field.

No panic under pressure and wins it after the hooter.

If that’s playing badly, I’ll take it every week and certainly in a World Cup.

@Kirwan Yup, he had a very solid outing. His tactical kicking drove us out of trouble by going high and into the 22 forcing Muirhead to put the ball out to hand posession back to us. He also looks very dangerous taking the line on and topped off the night with a droppie to win it.

Definitely liking the looks of Smith, Beauden, Clarke, RTS, Rieko, Jordan, Jordie at this stage

I think RTS needs a few more games at SR level under his belt first. Too much of a prospect to risk throwing him into the deep end just yet - an EOYT slot would be a good possibility though.

Think it's Clarke v Reece for the wing slot opposite Jordan. Nice choice for Foster to make.

As a neutral, I thought his game overall was a bit of a curate's egg. Some outstanding moments but also some really, really average stuff. That said, his outstanding stuff came at just the right time and he sealed the win, so yeah, def. a player you want for the big games.

We're going to have to take a punt on someone and he has the most talent of the lot.

Havili - just not up to it, was a stop gap at best, an absolute waste if time starting him there for further tests
Goodhue - classy player but coming back from a long injury and his best performances in black were at 13
Jordie - has loads of potential to be a world class 12, but not a big body of work there at Super level and above, and is established at 15 already
Tupea - young, still developing, has a way to go yet

Am I missing anyone? Who would you pick? With ALB out the home tests are a great opportunity to blood someone that has potential to succeed in the position.

I'd go for experience at Test level for the Irish series. which would mean Reiko at 13 and either QT or Goodhue at 12 (depending on how he goes) in the starting line-up. Jordie could provide cover at 12. I'd go for TUJ for a punt in the 23 as he's been playing well.

I think RTS needs to be handled well to get the best out of him and a Test slot at this stage could be a step too far and poss.backfire if he has a 'mare. Hope he will be in the big squad for experience and with a view for a poss. bench slot in later tests and the EOYT.

Agree with Havili. Thought he showed real potential in the Bledisloe, but he seemed to drop off badly after that. Rabbit in headlights stuff at times

                Some odd logic.
There’s a bit of bias in my pick but mainly because I watch him play more, but QT has been on fire and doing everything you want of an AB 12.

What I would say is that there are a couple of options for 2nd 5, but I don't see RTS being ahead of the others. And no, Havili isn't one of those.

Not quite. Smith, BB, CC, Jordie, Reiko, Reece and Jordan for me.

RTS in the squad for sure but not doing enough yet to be a test starter.

Can we shelve the Jordie at 12 idea for Ireland?
We simply don’t have time to adjust and why move last years best player and cause change everywhere else.
Move him there at the 60 minute mark after someone else has gone hard. That way either Reece or Clarke can be the impact reserve.

@Crucial why? He looks more than capable of making the step up and it makes sense to get him in there while his bro’s at ten for familiarity.

It’s anyones guess what Foster is going to do anyway. He’s not innovative so I’m sure he will just keep Havili.

Yawn, yawn. Fozzies an idiot. Jordie will save our bacon.....

I've explained why not in my post.
We are up cold against a strong team.
Trying to fix one problem by taking strength from elsewhere is never a great idea.
'Playing alongside his brother?' - I thought he was a big boy now. Have they ever played 10/12 together before that would be some kind of advantage?
Starting him at 15 puts our best, proven player in that position AND allows a shift to 12 to mix things up later in the game. Also makes room for either of Clarke/ Reece on the bench for impact whereas otherwise we need a midfielder on the bench.

I agree that throwing him in the deep end is not advisable if we are serious about seeing if he can be a longterm fit in the 12 jersey. Although it's not like he's inexperienced. This isn't an Ice situation

@Crucial lol we don’t have a proven player at 12 apart from maybe Goodhue but will he really be ready for Ireland after his long term stint on the sidelines?

Jordie has a higher ceiling than our current options at 12, the only downside is that he hasn’t played there at international level.

Foster needs to take a punt for once and make the move, beats doing what we’ve done before because that hasn’t exactly worked.

In reality any of the 3 wingers could be picked and I don’t think there would be too many grizzles around the place.

I think that Reece makes a better impact player than Clarke. He is busier and just what is needed to spot opportunities against tiring opposition

Smith, Beauden, Clarke, QT, Ioane, Jordan Jordie.

Weber (although that will change as the season progresses), RM, Reece.

Incumbents are Havili and QT. Havili has gone backwards and was a stopgap. QT has developed further, is in very good form and was the identified development 12.

If Goodhue plays well in the finals I expect he will get a chance in one of the games.

For RWC planning one of QT/RTS/Goodhue/Ioane/ALB will miss out come selection (injuries etc withstanding)

Havili and DMac battling for a utility spot.

                                      That's not a fair fight.

Good observations, though. 12 is full of folk with strengths and weaknesses at the moment. Finals could be interesting for RTS; play well in the knockouts and he could have a crack.

QT has played well. Would not be surprised to see him starting there -- and only 23. Midfield would be 23 and 25 with RI. RI is ridiculously young for a bloke with his pedigree.

I’m a bit slow to pick up the news that CC did his hammy last night so I guess Reece will start.
I really don’t know who our 4th winger is although Goodhue on the bench could allow RI to cover wing.

@Kirwan He had a bad game. Slotting the winning droppie doesn't make him a good 10.

Not saying he shouldn't play 10 for the ABs; just didn't show it today.
