Game has the look of being a high scoring draw at this rate.
Such a shame we don't have anyone in the squad who is famed for making things happen in unhelpful conditions
It's just insane leaving one of our best ever out of the side so regularly. What the hell are they thinking?
They're clearly not.

First India, now they sit him in England. My mate in Aussie can't work out why he isn't in the side. Fucken nuts

Went to a birthday party that started on Saturday arvo & went through to 4am, so was completely knackered for the remainder of Sunday
... just catching up with the sport now.
Not one of our top 4 got to 50 - yet again it was Mitchell & Blundell that got us out of trouble... Bracewell has performed well in his 1st test.
Our top 4 need a kick up the arse, have to look at the way Mitchell & Blundell are batting, with good patience & the right shot selections. -

Southee currently: 32 overs, 0/154...
Definitely having a down game. Hopefully we don't bowl the Poms out only to collapse
-
With Jamieson out injured, will we even try to set them much of a target here? Or do we just bat till lunch/tea tomorrow to make the game safe? Not ideal when down 0-1 in a 3 match series. Hopefully Bracewell gets a lot of 4th innings overs and is the difference?
-
@ACT-Crusader 300 lead by close tonight would be 4.4 RPO from here. Then 3 sessions tomorrow to roll them? Maybe that's not enough runs, but with BMac in charge I bet England would give it a good go.
Not sure how to look up biggest totals chased down at Trent Bridge on Cricinfo..

TV comms say 284 highest successful chase at Trent Bridge.
No chance. Final 3 wickets for 20 max then poms to clean up early after tea.
Only we could score 550 odd and lose.

And only we could have our foot on the throat, with the game all but won and then implode in the space of five overs
To be honest, I would have said a draw was by far the most likely outcome but McCullum and Stokes makes that a little less likely. The first hour will likely determine things.

Yeah, if we can bat through the first hour or so of the morning session we should be able to get a draw out of it - really disappointed how poorly we've performed in these first two tests... haven't put enough good batting partnerships together, also haven't bowled well enough in pairs to keep the pressure on them.

Day 4 - Blackcaps lead by 238 runs with 3 wickets remaining.Blackcaps - 553/10 (145.3) & 224/7 (69)
England - 539/10 (128.2) -
English view: Black Caps 'frazzled, anxious' with test on knife-edge
...
“The pitch is playing well, Kyle Jamieson will not be fit to bowl and, psychologically, England must feel as if they have the upper hand, having hauled themselves back into contention, having conceded such a huge first innings total (off 553).”That England almost managed to match that total, being dismissed for 539, spoke volumes about the resilience in Stokes’ side and their ability to instantly throw the pressure back on the Black Caps as the tourists set about their second innings.
“Tom Latham’s brain might have been a bit frazzled after a lengthy period in the field. In any event, Latham’s decision to leave a ball from Anderson that crashed into his middle and off stump in the first over of New Zealand’s second innings was an early sign of uncertainty and an unduly generous way to gift Jimmy Anderson a 650th test wicket, a remarkable statistic for a fast bowler.”
...One thing is for sure, if the Black Caps have any chance of victory, then Southee and Henry can't bowl anywhere near as many hittable pies in the fourth innings. Could be a big night for Michael Bracewell.

Neil Wagner will be hugely influential as he has been so many times before, oh wait.....

The same guy who’s taken 27 first class wickets in 96 games ?
Bring back Mark Craig or Mitchell Santner
