The main problem is the tight five though. Their clean out work has been terrible for a long time

Spot on - with the exception of Bower. Some good at least has come from this debacle.

@Victor-Meldrew i would have to disagree, Bower was non existent at the breakdown, just like the rest of the tight 5.

Akira second top tackler for the ABs
Most run metres of any forward on the field

Fantastic effort after a long time on the sideline. He and Barrett are good 6 options.

Marshall was saying on that Irish podcast that the NZR can’t afford to pay out all the contracts of the coaching staff. I guess the answer to that is can they afford not to??

Fuck me. Managerial incompetence at it's finest with zero contingency planning.

Full stadiums and advertising revenue from a winning team surely outweighs any individual contracts

Get Rieko Ioane back on the left wing. He isn't a centre. Put him out on the wing and leave him there to break Howletts record.
WIll Jordan is the fullback. Need him getting his hands on the pill as much as possible. Jordie at 12 maybe.....
I feel for Sam Cane. I think he is a warrior but he is a shit interviewee and I imagine he is a shit orator in the dressing for geeing a team up. NZ have a wet blanket for a coach and a captain with no charisma. I feel sorry for him. He should never have got the proverbial armband.
You would never see McCaw subbed at 65 mins in a game you are chasing. The Barrett Mo'unga backline buffet is also a shit show. The backline is a revolving door.

Accommodating Cane/Ardie and Beaudy/Mo'unga (on pitch together) has caused loads of systemic problems. It has also delayed cohesion by years. No combos being built up.

I can't figure out the NZ team from week to week. Who are the nailed on starters ? Who are the stalwarts.

              Where are the characters?

Even the front row used to have Hayman, the Franks brothers, Mealamu.

Nepo, Ofa, Karl et al. They are insipid. Empty shirts.

Compare them to Furlong, Atonio, Sinkler, Genge, Thongan Thor.

The allblacks front rowers are a bunch of nobodies.

Grace and Blackadders stock rising by the week.

Can't give benefits of the doubt any more. Hope Joe Schmidt gets quick promotion to head coach now.
Our hooker and midfield selections backfired unsurprisingly in my view. Outside the 50 22 Havili seemed just as pressured as Rieko all night. Taylor again failed to deliver. And the bench did not work. Needed more direction and intelligence when Smith and Cane went off but we seemed far more disorganised. Vaii gave it his all. But what was RTS there for?
Sure as hell hope we see Jordie at 12 Jordan at 15 and Rieko and Reece on the wing. Our kicking and kick chase so poor and we seem to have lost our connectivity on counter-attack.
Gibson Park and Beirne best on the park for me. Well done Ireland!

Schmidt is a selector and mentor to Foster so he is responsible for some of this crap over the last 2 weeks.

                Lol what

He is in camp isn’t he,coaching in a role so he is part of this fuck show.

He takes over from Fox as a selector after this game. He was only involved as a coach in the first test because the other coaches had Covid.

As for "mentor" what the fuck are you talking about?

                @Frye

As an Irish fan I didn’t see Schmidt’s highly prescriptive and structured gameplan being a good fit for the ABs, but after watching the last couple of games, and also the Autumn tests, I’m beginning to think that it might be exactly what they need.

The talent is there, but unlike previous AB sides there didn’t seem to be an appreciation that hard work needs to be done, and maintained for 80 minutes before you can start dreaming of record scores. The first half performance had a feeling of complacent side that assumed that the proper order would be restored simply because that’s what always happened. If Schmidt is appointed in a coaching roll a lot of those players are going to get a very rude awakening.

As an Irish fan I feel the Irish response in the second half was real proof of how the sides belief and discipline has developed way beyond what we thought was possible. Halfway through I was also guilty of believing that normal order was about to be restore, and that a massive collapse was looking inevitable, so to go on and win the game by 10 points was the stuff of dreams.

We have always believed NZ to be the ultimate test, and for us a series win won’t change that belief, so to go into your backyard and perform like this is unbelievable. I think I’m still in shock from last week to be honest, and I intend to really savour watching the game again, this time sitting on the sofa rather than hiding behind it.

The squad needs a coaching and culture change, but I believe that NZ has the players to turn this around for the RWC next year. They’ll need to because it is probably going to be the most competitive one we’ll have seen, with France, SA, England & Aus all improving, and with Ireland and Wales also having a big say.

F%@k it, I’m going to get monstrously pissed. 🍾😂

When he spoke at a Sports Lunch 2-3 years back, he mentioned that he and all the ex-AB Captains were in regular contact with NZR. Sounded like a formal or semi-formal thing.

It is funny. I didn't think the ABs played badly individually at all. Maligned players such as Havili and Akira esp. were quite good. The problem with this AB set up is that it is killing good players. New players like LF are being sacrificed as well. The contrast with the well-coached Ireland is staggering.

@Old-Samurai-Jack some individuals played okay and there was a short period where we seemed in sync. For me the biggest problem is that lack of combination and trust within the group. Are they playing for each other? Do they know what the guy next to them is going to do and adjust or react accordingly?

Rugby is the ultimate team sport in my opinion and yet we aren’t playing like a team. That’s coaching and man management.

@ACT-Crusader My thoughts too. There doesn’t appear to be any sense they are playing for each other, but alongside each other. They’re passive and tentative. There is no cohesion or sense of a shared mission. It’s poor coaching and leadership

Do they know what the guy next to them is going to do and adjust or react accordingly?

Rugby is the ultimate team sport in my opinion and yet we aren’t playing like a team. That’s coaching and man management.

Read said they looked like a team who hadn't spent enough time together. He looked almost apologetic when he said it. Sounds like a diplomatic indictment to me

                                        @Frye

@Halfout any opinion on the non red cards for Aki and Porter?

Ireland are clearly better coached and full value for the win.

But I can help but feel refereeing turned the last two tests in a huge way.

@Steve Nah, poor reffing in the 2nd, good reffing in the 3rd.
