Great round of matches tonite! Good karma for Tigers and Adam Doueih. Enjoyed the Wighton and Tapine show earlier.

Tom Burgess to see an extended spell on the sidelines no doubt after his high shot.

Gold Coast now nailed on for the spoon.

Cowboys have seen the opportunity to nick first and pump the Dragon

            Top 4 still wide open.

Only got one week. That's poor from the NRL. That was a full speed clothesline.

Carrigan gets 4 for the hip drop that breaks a leg

                Fair result.

The NRL is now having to stamp out another wrestling style tackle brought about because of how disadvantageous a legs tackle is. A perfect snapping legs tackle only results in a quick play the ball and no marker. So it's two up top to slow everything down.

And so yards after contact becomes this big thing. Which in turn leads to the crusher (because guys were turning their back and driving the legs) and now these where the 3rd guy is trying to get a semi-stationary player to the ground (who has legs like tree trunks).

The rugby codes are definitely facing the same issue, how do we bring back the legs tackle? Rugby should be easy, if the guy is on the ground you can get at the ball. League? Fuck knows how they fix it

and while we are on the subject of the judiciary

There a couple of absolute grub kiwi props running around this weekend who can consider themselves very very fucking lucky

The giant cat JWH gave a not even subtle old-school "welcome to first grade" elbow to the face, just another in a long line of stupid niggly grubby acts, got fuck all (old JWH loves the niggle, but is prone to going missing when shit gets real tough. I will always remember him basically running away from Ben Teo a few years back)

But he's got nothing on big Nelson at Melbourne. NAS got fined for the 22nd time this season for smashing Egan's teeth out. The bloke must have 85,000 carry-over points, but can't get suspended. The mental gymnastics the NRL had to use not to suspend him were a sight to behold. Absolutely disgraceful decision.

@mariner4life NAS, in true Storm grub tradition gets a free pass. It’s breathtakingly unsurprising….

Nothing ever surprises me when it comes to JWH. His legacy with reports and the judiciary is embarrassing to put it lightly.

The only thing good about the fall out from NAS is that its not just a kiwi thing, all scribes and forums are all scratching their head around how a guy can lose 6 teeth and the aggressor gets a warning because they could not supposedly find enough evidence. Interestingly if they did find enough evidence and inflicted any penalty then the resulting injury also gets taken into account. This was a terrible act poorly punished.

                              read this shit

"We identified that Nelson creates space so there is no crusher and no force applied to Egan's neck. There was a couple of other things we had to clear - first the head slam; we see there was clear separation from Nelson's right arm as player Egan gets thrown to the ground. Nelson has a good grip with his left arm but there is clear separation, whereas in a head slam you would see that arm isolate the head and really slam it into the ground, so we cleared that.

"Secondly was the dangerous contact aspect... in one of the back angles you can see Nelson gets a grip under Egan's left arm, and we believe Nelson's right arm was diagonal from that grip, across his chest.

"There might be possibly minor contact at the end of the tackle with Nelson's forearm to the neck and chin area, but that was a minor contact. It was a forceful tackle which unfortunately results in Egan's head going into the ground."

NRL's head of football Graham Annesley was at pains to reiterate the MRC acts independently from the governing body, and so the finger can't be pointed at his department.

                              alt text

This big fucking grub actually jumped to make sure he smashed Egan as hard as he could in the face. It's fucking astounding.

I found it quite sickening to watch. It wasn’t a play to deliberately hurt (like NAS and JWH), but it has always been a very high risk play. No doubt it’s coached and practiced, but it wouldn’t be practiced with the force and scenario like it played out.

"There might be possibly minor contact at the end of the tackle with Nelson's forearm to the neck and chin area, but that was a minor contact. It was a forceful tackle which unfortunately results in Egan's head going into the ground."

                                  Absolutely laughable.

NRL's head of football Graham Annesley was at pains to reiterate the MRC acts independently from the governing body, and so the finger can't be pointed at his department.

In rugby that act would have him rubbed out for a month or more. Well, until SANZAAR stepped in...

I’m not a big fan, but I thought Kent’s rant on NRL 360 last night on the NAS incident was very good.

I liked Luke Paton as a player but that was a disgraceful readout of the situation and justification

For those who were wondering, I think this is the 'tackle' (assault) in question. That's fucking grubby:
