I watched it tonight. I was familiar with the Eno soundtrack, but had never seen the film before. I thought it was completely mesmerizing, agree it's 9/10 (at least). I'll buy it, many repeat viewings in there. -

There was a thread about the "worst sports films of all time" (or something) a few months back, and some posters mentioned their faves. I couldn't submit too much to that discussion because while I can generally remember my faves, I try to keep my memory spared from the worst ones. -
Finally got around to seeing the Watchmen the other day, a bit mixed for me, I loved the comics (or Graphic Novels if you prefer), they felt very dark, the characters all very flawed and broken with a very desperate streak running through them all, in some respects the film captured this and I thought the Rorschach character was quite well defnied but the pace of the movie was off slightly and the back stories were thinned out too much.<br />
It's not easy to transform Graphic novels into films, V for Vendetta was a less than perfect reflection of the comics and Watchmen is unfortunately the same -

Is the new Watchmen dvd the same cut as the theatrical release, or is it a longer uncut version (a-la Jackson's LOTR "deluxe" extended versions); or is the deluxe version something that will be released at a later date?<br />

Have you seen the Watchmen cartoon series made for tv, where every page of Watchmen is dialogued? (I believe they use a graphic template designed by Neal Adams.) It is a purer translation of the novel to the screen, yet it's too dull for me to stick it out.<br />

Re: "It's not easy to transform Graphic novels into films"; I'm sure the studios see the dollar signs, figuring, hey, these graphic novels already have a captive audience, the scripts are already story-boarded, and we have the technology to make the visions on page look even better on the screen.<br />

I never read Frank Miller's 300, so can't say how the movie holds up to it. I thought the movie too over-the-top cartoonish, and yet I really enjoyed it. Fans of the comics may have completely different opinion.<br />

An artist I know has published many graphic novels and been approached by a BIG studio and told them that while he is willing to help them develop new creative properties, his published archive (which they covet) is off the table as far as motion picture translations, for the reason you've outlined. -
Fifty Dead men Walking; gritty drama based on the real life of Martin McGartland who was a double agent of sorts with the IRA and British Intelligence. <br />

I just finished reading the book. I sort of enjoyed it. Quite dark and gives more detail about Oskar, Ellie etc. -

Harry Potter which I thought was good but a little disappointed that they took out the final battle. <br />

Transformers 2 which was ok and could have been better if they had taken out all the bits where they tried to add humour and failed. Too many JarJar binks type crap. -
Took TR Jnr to see Ice Age 3. <br />

A story of a Canadian Heavy Metal band that never quite made it. Although they are revered by a number of other metal bands they never got the record deal that would have made them famous. The two protagonists are Lips the lead singer and Rob Reiner the drummer (said to be one of the best drummers in metal), they are two down to earth guys chasing their dream. Now both in their 50's they are still rocking as hard as ever. An excellent movie and I would rate it a 9/10 -
Mrs Meldrew suggested we watch "Il y a longtemps que je t'aime" or "I Have Loved You so Long" with Kristin Scott Thomas. Thought it was a French Chic-flick but was seriously hooked from the first 5 minutes. Not a thriller or historical drama or anything I'd normally watch but a well-told story of the relationship between two sisters in Nancy (without giving too much away). Elsa Zylberstein (who I'd never heard of) was outstanding. 9/10 and poss. the best film I've seen in a while.<br />

[b]Knowing [/b]with Nicholas Cage. Have steered clear of any film with him for a while after teh deadful "Wicker Man", but this was a good film. Which could have been a great film if the ending wasn't so bloody saccharin... 6.5/10 -

I haven't seen it yet, but am looking forward to it (I posted a trailer several pages & months ago). Those guys have played in local strip-mall bars to half-empty rooms (and believe me, these are very small rooms) in neighbourhoods where I live in Southern Ontario for years. They still go around and staple cheap photocopy fliers for their shows onto street poles, and although I have never met them I'm pretty stoked that their perserverence has been acknowledged and the doc has been overwhelmingly well received by the critics. -
Saw Transformers 2 last night.<br />

It was enjoyable, but not as good as the first one. Too much fill-in crap, the movie could have been half an hour longer.<br />

Lots of shit gets shot and blown up (good), couple too many cartoonish characters (not so good) heaps of eye candy (Megan Fox is fairly gratuitous throughout, and Cairns girl Isobel Lucas gets to act all slutty and look hot).<br />
<br />
Overall i give it a pass, but unlike the first, i am not itching to see it again, and it won't be added to the DVD collection, and the thought of a thrid doesn't excite me a great deal (although i will go see it). -
Saw Brüno the other day. Hilarious. The funniest movie I've seen in ages.

Public Enemy--the story of Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger. Johnny Depp plays Dillinger. Directed by Michael Mann, of Miami Vice fame. Very enjoyable and a look at what a real economic meltdown actually looked like. Worth going to see if you have the opportunity.<br />

Watched Step Brothers again. It's even funnier the 2nd time round.
