@Machpants Novel and audiobook are out now. It's like an adapted screenplay.

Ah, I thought it was a movie. Being in the movie review thread!

Mann wants to make the movie.

Day Shift - Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, Snoop Dogg

Foxx is a vampire hunter, but got kicked out of the union, and thats where you make the big bucks selling fangs and he needs money to pay for his kids braces!

    Easy watch, some amusing bits.

Saw Northmen on the plane over to NZ last week

firmly falls into the category of a good film but not sure how much i actually enjoyed it, not a moment of levity, whole film of people just surviving...which is probably quite accurate for the setting

The Sailor: short movie length doco about an Octagenarian who has spent pretty much his entire life at sea.

Is an interesting, but sad watch

    Death Hunt
For the ADHD kids out there, TL:DR;, etc - bad movie. Don't watch.
For the sad sacks like me who just trawl the raging rivers occasionally looking for random movies with the current year in the title....

    • titwatch: zero
    • This movie follows the proud tradition of exactly what the title says on the tin: "the greatest prey on earth is Man"
    • Seagal, or Van Damme (?) did it in nice B-Grade style. Probably both... when I think about it. I mean - who hasn't?
    • I think Rutger (?) did it in nice B-grade style
    • This movie did it in nasty, terrible C-grade style
    • I don't know how you can make this genre boring, but they nailed it
    • The most interesting scene comes early in a prologue scene... when a man is tied to a tree with some rope and... a padlock? Rope and padlock? I'm intrigued.... why the fuck?
    • But...
    • Then just shit.
    • Sound mixing... WTF? I was concerned when they overlayed background crickets (to signify they're in the back of bumfuck-nowhere) - louder than the dialogue. Sure - the dialogue is shit, but... ?
    • But at one point, I actually thought I had some other video accidentally playing on phone or something, as it was so quiet, I think they tried to remove it but fucked it up?
      Just... shit.

0.5 stupid human prey out of 5 stupid human predators.
Just... so shit. The worst of all worlds... shit movie without any of the self-awareness or humour of even the most D-grade shit-movies.
I'm fucking embarassed to admit I watched it, but... civic duty.

Watched this the other night for the first time in ages.

So good, so much tension and an underrated classic in so many ways. Kurt Russell has never been cooler and such a good support cast.

Slightly dated and shitty FX at times but nothing is perfect.

I love how open ended the finale is too. Weโ€™re they infected or not ?

One of the all time greats and very underrated.

The sequel, or prequel actually is also pretty good, better than I had expected.

Yeah it was even if it was kinda a remake. The movie geek in me loved all the tie ins to the original. Slightly inconsistent CGI and less memorable characters though.

How fucken bad was Lars with a rifle though ? Just shoot the dog already you fool.

I hope thereโ€™s some sort of sequel in the world to these two. Also a very cool PS2 game to play late at night.

    Pretty good soundtrack too.

The Taking of Beverly Hills (1991) - Soundtracks - IMDb

The Taking of Beverly Hills (1991) - Soundtracks - IMDb

The Taking of Beverly Hills (1991) - Movies, TV, Celebs, and more...

Finally, got around to The Taking of Beverly Hills

    • It's fucking terrible
    • But good
    • Titwatch: zero
    • To be honest, the first 15 minutes had me wondering if I'd bother continuing, but then a truck-tanker appeared on screen, and the tanker was plain-silver but for the words "TOXIC CHEMICALS" in bright red... and I was sold.
    • But...
    • Everything is ludicrous - protagonist, basic plot, action sequences, and most definitely : physics
    • And therefore - Everything is something I'd have a bit of a snipe about, usually...
      • But... there's a charm to it?
      • I found myself forgiving every piece of bullshit/cheese/ridiculousness... for, I don't know... charm?
    • My ex-girlfriend used to idolise the 80s - particularly the shit music and.. just the shit; and I used to get annoyed by it. But I can't help but think... am I tainted by the same curse? Am I just viewing 80s/90s movies with rose-tinted/sin-forgiving glasses?
    • But nah... fuck it. Bobby Sixkiller driving a SWAT tank... not a fucking armoured personnel carrier, but a fucking ballistic-weapon-firing tank - versus a protagonist who is just a retired rich selfish NFL player "I hate guys who don't like football"... I didn't mind.
    • And yeah, @Tim, the "shuriken scene" - was fucking peak. Peak.... everything.
That should be in every film-studies class. For... awesomeness, but also for how it wouldn't work without the context. Just... a whole lot of what-the-fuckery but "yep, I'm happy with that"

4 easily exploding police-cars out of 5 inexplicably invincible white-rolls-royces. Under fire from Billy-fucking-SixKiller-in-a-goddamn-police-jeep-with-a-fucking-constantly-firing-fucking-flamethrower. What-The-Actual-Fuck?
Big-ass flamethrower inexplicably fitted to the back of a police jeep. Watch it.

That scene made me simultaneously cheer from how pumped I was, and laugh from how stupid it was. Awesome.

Glad you enjoyed that charmingly goofy movie!

I loved how everything even remotely near a collision would explode.

    What a cool movie.

Great action sequences, cheese, good feels, reminiscing, hot Jennifer Connelly...what's not to like.

Tom looks pretty good for his age, must all that Scientology

    The 355

    • Dumb action movie with a quartet/quintet of female protagonists...
    • Yet... titwatch: zero. WTAF
    • Ridiculous MacGuffin
    • Absolutely fucking ridiculous auction scene... zero sense made. Just... what the actual fuck? Nothing about that made sense. Absolutely fucking nothing. WTAF.
    • 5 female protagonists including Penelope Cruz, yet titwatch zero. WTAF?
    • Considering the overall ridiculousness of... everything... I assumed this was based on a comic-book or some shit. But nope... some silly fluffybunny actually wrote this as a one-off screenplay. What a dick.
    • At least we got some diversity in the all-vagina-ed leads... whitey, ginga, negress, latina, asian
    • End-credits music appropriately "girl-power rock"? - check.

Overall... 2 clumsy gunfight/fistfight scenes out of 5 girl-talks "you're awlright girl, HE'S the dick"

I watched Under Siege yesterday, it was pretty decent for an action film of that era, and maybe one of Steven Seagal's better efforts. A strong cast, Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Bussey were the villains, and Baywatch era Erika Eleniak jumps out of a birthday cake to flash her bolted on norks before grabbing a sub machine gun and mixing it with the boys. Seagal plays an ex-Navy seal posing as a cook, the body count is pretty high, not lot of his usual philosophical BS or showcasing of his aikido. 3 drugged playboy playmates out of 5 dead henchmen

    Prey

Watching it right now, very enjoyable

    ##spoiler
the predator is a pussy though, the brother/war chief dude starts kicking his arse so he goes invisible and sneaks up behind him, no honour
    ##endspoiler

Seen fan calls for a series of these throughout time, feudal Japan, medieval Europe, think Iโ€™d be down for all of them

I'll have to look out for that - what's it called?

The original 1951 version was pretty good for it's time too but not as good as Carpenter's version.

@MiketheSnow and just on The Bear, I'm dead keen to watch this. I absolutely love restaurant movies, kind of a weird obsession (100 foot journey, chef, spanglish, burnt, ratatouille, love them all, seen them all 5x times each)

Bear starts in Oz in a couple of days
