@Kruse I wasn't taken by that series...I havent checked if a 2nd session had been lined up, but you do not find out alot by end of s1
Shit... I'm well into it by now... I guess I can finish it off with properly lowered expectations of any sort of resolution.
It sounds like Season 2 is lined up... with Elijah Woods entering the fray. -

LOTR: The Rings Of Power
Two episodes released on Prime Video so far. I'm enjoying it for the scenery. The production values are good.
Importantly, out in the web there are a bunch of neckbeards going off about how it doesn't agree with anything Tolkein did/wrote etc.
So that's also a plus.
I'll keep on with it.
Neckbeards like your hero?

Mike
One episode in and pretty interesting so far. Having read a fair bit on him I already knew he had a fucked up childhood ( well, that’s common knowledge ). Kinda torn so far as the main guy just isn’t quite consistently convincing enough as Tyson for me…….I guess loads of biopics have this issue but Iron Mike is someone I’ve seen on TV and been aware of for over 30 years……will stick with it though and see how it ends up !

Finished The Old Man
Top show.
Great acting, sure as is the way in this genre, some of the shit is OTT, but hey, we dont live in that spook world, so who knows how super human they are
##spoiler
I had picked early on that Emily / Angela would be Hamzads daughter, didnt pick that Angela was Chases daughter until it was obvious.
Some nice tie ins though, brothers, dad etc.
The fact The Old Man wasnt Dan Chase, haha!
With those other fellas that had Emily in the van, got taken out by a lone woman? Pretty well organised operation to have half a dozen shooters, knowing they would fail to then get that woman in the right spot to take out 2 highly trained operatives - that said, refer above haha
##endspoilerJust finished watching The Old Man. Another in the recent spate of shows that have a non finale finale. This must be the fourth show this year where I've waited for the new ep to come out and only discovered there wasn't a new one coming via google.
I genuinely thought that the actor playing young Chase would be Jeff Bridges real son so was surprised he was some random actor. Best match of young to old actor I've seen in a while.
##spoiler
TBH, I could have done without the lady (whose name I've already forgotten) kidnapped/not kidnapped subplot, I think after a great first episode it nearly killed off the momentum.Like @taniwharugby I picked it early about Emily, to the point that I thought it was too obvious and that they wouldn't do it.
I thought the van shooter was the chick who travelled with Chase to take grab the Russians so she was an established bad ass. But it was silly how they both just sat there watching when they should have been on high alert. Especially the dude who noticed everything from the basement.
##endspoiler
Anyway, good show - I hope they make S2 quickly in case Bridges cancer returns.

Yellowstone
I've watched two seasons and quite frankly the improbability of it all makes me hesitant to continue in the assumed (well founded by experience) belief that shows tend to get more ridiculous rather than less the longer they go.
Can anyone disabuse me of this notion?
-
@antipodean you went 1 season further than I did.

It's all ridiculousness, and if that's not what you're looking for... yeah, give it up.
BUT - don't let it put off you the "prequel" 1883. Different monster.
Some ridiculousness, but a different class, and worth giving a go. -

Yep.
Two very different things...
I do wonder if 1883 was somebody's project that couldn't get green-lit, only eventually ever got made by riding off the commercial (stupid-people's eyeballs) success of Yellowstone, and just shoehorning in the 'Dutton name' to make it a "prequel" and therefore suddenly a guaranteed cash-cow -

He was good as the deputy in Sons though.
@antipodean As you may have guessed from the above I found Yellowstone to be pretty awful. All the ladies at my work loved it though - so maybe Sheridan is actually a genius as he's created show both ladies and (some) blokes love.

The Terminal List, the latest from Chris Pratt and Amazon Prime.
have heard that is pretty decent, is on my list...
Am loving Modern Family, almost through S2, problem is, Mrs TR also loves it, meaning I cant watch without her!
So many awesome characters, but Cam, Luke & Gloria are my faves at moment.
The Terminal List
I read the book recently, and yeah... can see it could make decent TV.
The guy who wrote it though... actual retired Navy SEAL, very "rah rah US-A, US-A, guns are awesome, liberal snowflakes trying to stop me owning a rocket-launcher don't understand the REAL world, etc, etc".
Also amusing - he kinda throws some shade on people in the book who "just want to say they've got a Navy SEAL as a friend". And then goes on in the LOOOONG thanks/credits - to mention the fact that he's obviously spent time hanging out with Larry Ellison, Jimmy Spithill, amongst others.
As an employee of Larry, I certainly wouldn't want to suggest that maybe Larry is one of those chaps who bought themselves a Navy SEAL 'friend', but...Just finished watching, was a watchable popcorn action thriller show that Amazon seem to be corning the market on.
One thing annoyed me which I was wondering was in the book:
##spoiler
So from the first time you see Ben it was obvious, and boringly obvious, that he was going to wind up being one the "baddies". The trope of the best mate being in on the conspiracy needs to get shot on a boat and dumped in the water never to be seen in a script again.

I loved Yellowstone (and no, I'm not a chick at @Nepia 's work).
But you certainly do have to look past the absurdity of some of the events. I mean, right from the very start when they deal with that bloke they want out by throwing him off a cliff,...1883 completely different, I was engrossed, though I'm not sure if I actually "enjoyed" it!

Fabulous series on Apple TV

we both love it, don't generally have an issue looking past the implausible
funnily enough the storyline i enjoyed the most, might be after where youve got too but doesn't sounds like you're continuing, was Jimmy being sent off to work on the 666 range (weird that is an actual working range), felt very different feel....no crazy plots...seemed like much closer to real work on these places. I believe its also being spun off so it probably had different writers hence the feel

@Kiwiwomble I'm happy to ignore some stuff in order to enjoy a show, but I had already invested years into Sons of Anarchy and 1 season of Yellowstone made me think of that, on a ranch...I expect it'd be one of those shows I'd watch and enjoy enough to keep watching, but had enough stuff I really wanted to watch
