Waterworld has aged far, far better than Mad Max
Mad Max was out of date when it was released.
Budgets differed a little.
Yeah, seems a weird comparison - a big budget mid 90s movie up against an almost zero budget 70s movie.

One universally lauded, the other panned to death
Waterworld is better regardless of budget

Oh goody. My unpopular opinion: Mad Max is a classic. Waterworld varies between existential profundity, in the moment action scenes (on/off his boat in particular) and Hollywood soap bubbles . Costner is better as the morose silent type.
Reynolds was quoted as saying that "Kevin Costner should only star in movies he directs. That way, he can work with his favorite actor and favorite director".
Josh Wheldon apparently still can't sit through some scenes even though he was flown in to rewrite the worst ones.

Tend to agree. I think if Waterworld had been released without any mention of it's budget it would have been a success.

Oh - and I was going to say I really miss Never Mind the Buzzcocks - but see they've revived it. Sweet.
So you reminded me of this, I've watched 3 episodes now of the reboot. That'll most likely be all I watch.
It's naff.
Just them laughing with each other about how whacky they are.

Damn - I've downloaded the whole lot, old and new. Haven't given it a go yet.
It sounds like the "whacky" team-up of Russell Brand and Noel Fielding on the Big-Fat-Quiz-of-the-Year - so fucking annoying. Just "look at me, look at me, look how craaazy I am!" -
Daniel Day Lewis isn't half the actor he's made out to be.

Whilst I think “method” acting is an absolutely colossal load of wank this take is fucken bullshit. He is incredible.

I think he was in the 90s but (in case I've never mentioned this
) find his work in Gangs of New York and There Will Be Blood to be comically hammy.

You wouldn’t say that to Bill the Butchers face. He’d gut you.

I wouldn't say it as I would be doubled over in laughter. I'd go out laughing, not a bad way to die I guess, well before the gutting.

Have we had Nirvana is overrated in the thread yet?
Who's rating them overly?
History.
Same as Janice Joplin.
History is wrong on both counts.

I'm rating them overly on both counts.
But I'm ok with others having different opinions to me.

I don’t mind Nirvana to be honest but don’t see them as this seminal band. Joplin? Shouty, pre new-age hippy. You just know she’ll have very hairy armpits and BO. Less importantly I can’t think of anything she did apart from Piece Of My Heart that I’d care to listen to again.

Nirvana aren’t bad but they’re still a very clear 5th in terms of bands of that era with dead lead singers behind Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Jeff Buckley. All of them had better songs and were better singers.
Not to say Nirvana are terrible, far from it, learning their stuff on the guitar definitely helped with the ladies in the mid 90s…….but definitely overrated overall.
