    @Daffy-Jaffy

Unsure what to make of this. But I wish he had kept quiet after "stay's on the field, that’s how it has to be always". And just left it at that. It was interesting at the time but now it's stirring it all up again.

But Coles should know better by now. But at least he didn't damage his body with say a concussion career ending high head shot And Matera shouldn't let nonsense talk by Coles get to him so much.

I kind of on the fence with this. Read this article but wish Matera didn't come across as such a sensitive soul. And Coles as an insensitive whatever

Speaking on the What A Lad podcast, Matera admitted he was not proud of his actions towards Coles as he failed to set a good example for children watching the game.

“Yeah that was not something I’m not proud about, to be honest,” Matera admitted. “Because I know there’s a lot of young kids or young players watched the game and it’s not a good example.

“I’m one of the guys that says ‘the things that happens on the field stays on the field, that’s how it has to be always.

“But that day was a bit different to be honest, that day was a bit different.

“I’m one of the guys that says ‘the things that happens on the field stays on the field, that’s how it has to be always."

Clearly this is not true. The next word was 'But'

"he just continued picking on me"

    "it really hurt me"

"He said things that I’m sensitive about"

"I just couldn’t understand why he kept picking on me"

It's almost like Coles singled out an emotional player and tried to get him to lose focus on the game.

I'm shocked. Nothing like this ever happens in top level sports.

Won't someone think of the children?? Oh Pablo pulled out that bullshit too

"I know there’s a lot of young kids or young players watched the game and it’s not a good example"

    zzzzz

I wonder if he sounded a bit precious because English isn't his first language? Maybe he wasn't able to express things the way he intended?

To be fair, he was talking about HIS actions and not Coles when he said this.

The old double negative, so he’s proud of it, right?

    😀

This is just weird. I'm sure Matera has been subjected to worse sledging on the field than "you don't belong here". Wussy Cantabs. 😉

Didn't he get stood down for some racist comments? Either way I'm not for Coles carrying on like that. I would rather he focus on his actions then his words. I know sledging is part of it but Im not a fan.

    Racist comment. Can't remember this.

Coles isn't a dirty player but likes to verbally wind players up. I don't mind this TBH. As long as it doesn't go into no-go areas. Like a racist comment. But dont belong here seems fine to me

Yeah he was stood down for some dodgy tweets he wrote a decade ago. I'm sure plenty of players have said far worse

And that’s the problem when it’s talked about it in an interview and you don’t shut it down.

He obviously thought that was his chance to “apologise” but if you’re not giving all the details people who just read the transcript of reports of the interview are left scratching their heads.

But I’m not that keen on tell alls as well because then Coles would have to come out and issue an apology (no matter what he said) too and then that takes on a life of its own.

Smart from Coles, targetted what appears to be a mentally weak player.

Nothing the opposition says should stop you thinking about the game. Fitzy would be proud.

Kinda in two minds……the ABs seem to have a pretty high quota of dickheads in the team but then again sounds like Matera needs to harden up a bit.

    @Winger

    Enjoyed this:

Both Coles and Retallick were also involved in a spat with England prop Kyle Sinckler during a test at Twickenham in 2018, after the Englishman called All Blacks lock Retallick “the ugliest guy in the world”.

“I was like, ‘Shut up’, and then he dropped the ball five metres out and me and Guzzler were like, ‘Yeah, you useless bastard’,” Coles said on the What a Lad podcast.

It’s not just players Coles has mouthed off at – just ask former Wallabies assistant coach Nathan Grey, who Coles said called him a “cheap s...” from the sideline after he believed the hooker put a late hit on an Australian player.

No surprises, then, that Coles couldn’t resist firing a shot at the defence coach when the All Blacks scored in Wellington soon after.

“So I’ve gone back at him, we’ve scored, and I’m like, ‘good to see your defence is bloody working’. So, I’ve had it all – players, coaches, managers.”

Definitely ironic considering the doctor slapped Sincklers mother when he was born.

Probably one for the GOM thread but what’s with Coles talking like a teenage girl ? He’s like “this” and then he said like “that”, and I was like “this”
