@OomPB When Leiua played for Waikato he was usually at 12. A strong, direct runner, but doesn't have the speed he used to.

@Bones wonder if we have anyone doing similar in nz with our refs, cos when you watch the way some of these guys ref and the errors they keep making you wonder if they get reviewed at all.

Reffing is a critical part of the game, and a poor ref can ruin a game, so helping refs be better should be a high priority (that's without talking about the rules, although that's probably part of the issue with some refs)

We need more Pro refs, and I don't know what they are paid, but maybe not enough? But certainly multiple international training camps, better oversight throughout the world, refs doing other countries domestic comps not just NH refs doing SH internationals. While they are at it, a group of a dozen, whatever, full time judiciary members who do all international disciplinary commissions via video. Get some consistency there

I see NZR is trying to recognise refs more by giving them carrots, I was a bit confused a couple of weeks ago when I saw a bunch of people dressed up posh, then noticed two refs with caps on!

Pretty apt then given the old wives tale that eating carrots improves eyesight!

The worm has turned, first 4 weeks English prem versus SRP

    Competition/Team Ball-in-play time [average minutes]

    Force [Australian highest] 33.8’
    Super Rugby Pacific 34.0’
    Gallagher Premiership 36.8’
    Crusaders [NZ highest] 36.9’
    Exeter Chiefs [English highest] 40.1’

Category Super Rugby Pacific English Premiership
    Average # points per game 57 60
    Average # tries per game 7.4 8.0
Average # penalties awarded per game 23.2 22.7
Percentage turnover tries per game 30%. 31%

Referees are very tight on releasing tackler, rolling away East West, and any jackal being straight onto ball

@MiketheSnow Agree mate, I take no pleasure in all at reading this, and really hope we not seeing tip of iceberg. Wasps are also in the position of not really being a community based club, so will struggle to have lower grade amateurs to keep club alive.

@Dan54 No sympathies from me. They should live within their budgets like everyone should. In addition they received a massive payout from some outfit that brought a chunk of something to do with their Premiership a year or two back that was supposed to be the panacea to all the financial problems overzealous and overspending owners had indulged in.
Guess the owners of the television rights will now be withholding a decent chunk of money now the sellers of those rights are unable to supply the number of matches for telecasting they contracted to do?

    @Higgins

They got 200million pounds (400 NZ) to share amongst themselves 4 years ago. Another 100 mill quid to cover covid, and they're still this far up shit creek

Not suggesting sympathy for them mate, just saying I get no pleasure out of it. And as a rugby man, I don't want these things happening to any clubs. There are reports some clubs in MLR are struggling a bit too.

Saracens lacking safety certificate to admit 10,000 or more fans to stadium

Saracens are not able to safely admit 10,000 or more supporters to their stadium because they do not have the necessary certificate, raising questions over the stringent criteria that govern promotion to the Premiership
