So I'm about 90mins into Uncut Gems

I like Sandler, both the comedic version and his serious side. But this movie is just fucken annoying. Everyone just yells at each other constantly. Just irritating. Even Kevin Garnett couldn't save it for me. Not sure I'll even finish it.

It's on my Netflix watch list. After watching Hustle I was hoping it might be another good watch

It's a completely different style of movie. I liked it, but I wouldn't rush to watch it again - yes everyone is annoying but that's kind of the point, annoyance and increasing tension.

See How They Run: A very average whodunit set around the stage play the Mousetrap. One of my least favourite actors was less annoying to me than usual for the second time this year (the other was in the show about the Lakers), Adrien Brody.

@MN5 Check out the southern noir from the same era, The Hot Spot. Fun movie driven by Don Johnson's easy charm, and she gets them out too.

    @canefan

    Loved Hustle.

This just annoyed the crap out of me, I had to keep turning the volume down to make the shouting go away.

Yeah saw that one, terrific indeed. Mates and I thought that Virginia Madsen was Sharon Stone haha, did we not read the cover ?

There’s also this flick too with Buffy the Vampire slayer

No shit. You had the chance to have Elisabeth fucking Shue as your (pretend) girlfriend for the filming of a whole 'nother movie, and you didn't fight that? Dick.

I still can’t get over the fact that he was the same age in real life as the actor who played the rich Vietnam vet arsehole karate expert in KK3.

    Amsterdam

First off, great fun to actually go to the movies. I love the little light house theatres and it’s important to support them ( says me who hadn’t been since Dune last year but still ) Cool grabbing a Panhead Supercharger and sitting and watching…..

Christian Bale is such an extraordinary actor and this role is no exception. Denzils son was very cool ( after seeing him in a couple of duds ). Margot Robbie is exceptionally hot ( looks nice with dark hair ). Robert De Niro does a great Robert De Niro in it. All the supporting cast ( almost all of whom are recognisable ) do a top job too. Possibly a bit slow in parts and only very loosely based on the truth but some good laugh out loud moments and an interesting story.

How did I miss this, I was choosing between See How They Run and this film on Monday - this would have tipped the balance for me.

    Code Name: Banshee

    • Not great
    • I know it's all de rigeur to start an action/assassin movie off with action, and then let the "plot" be revealed later.
    • But... that works heaps better when there IS a plot. Or a comprehensible plot/back-story, at least. When you don't know what the back-story is, it's probably better to just tell it in a linear fashion, and figure it out yourself as you go.
    • Yeah... flashbacks, hinted-at-twists, but... I still have no idea what the backstory here really was. Who betrayed who? Was her daddy really a traitor? Is he actually still alive? Is there going to be a sequel? God forbid, is this going to be a franchise? Was this based on a "graphic novel"? (I can't be arsed looking that up... it was bad enough that could be)
    • Anyway - the "5 years later" story is simple enough....
    • female assassion, ex-CIA contra, blah blah blah, with zero charisma....
    • signature move - standing in the most exposed position available, holding two pistols out in front of her at head-height
    • Turns out Antonio Banderas was running a bit short of cash, so brought him in as the old mentor chap
    • gunfights ensue
    • tit-watch: does not ensue
    • more gunfights ensue, with the aid of Antonio's teenage daughter
    • some really nonsensical editing, and character decisions
    • (Lot's of "I need him/her alive, no matter what!" - and then firing guns willy-nilly in their direction, or straight-up point-blank into their face.)

2 "You're a shit female Olyphant/Hitman!" versing 5 "You were better in Sons-of-Anarchy!" heckling chants.

It’s definitely one that you can wait til it comes out on Netflix……no big explosions or massive action scenes.

It actually got a few really bad reviews but I liked it enough.

I don't really watch movies at home anymore unless they're streamer produced and don't go to the cinemas. Weirdly I often find it hard to concentrate on movies at home (no problem with TV bingeing though) these days.

Plus I'm not working at the moment so might go see it today or tomorrow.

@Nepia it's strange aye. I won't watch a movie at home because I don't want to commit to two hours in front of the tele, but I will happily spend three hours binging a series.

@MN5 I saw it this afternoon, and maybe because I had lowered expectations due to your comments and a podcast I heard discussing it, and I really enjoyed it. The only issue I had with it was the ending went a bit final Lord of the Rings movie of seemingly never ending.

I had read about the actual story it was loosely based on in the last year or so.

Yeah I think it’s better than the critics said.

Will definitely have another watch down the line.

Ready or Not (2019) with Samara Weaving and Adam Brody

Absolutely delicious black horror/comedy both original and satirical on the genre and the most enjoyable film I've seen this year. Think of a Taika Waititi version of a Midsomer Murders feature film but with more gore, violence and piss-taking and you'll get the picture. Bloody brilliant watch.
