Anyone who doesn’t like Coda is a fucking curmudgeon

No offense intended dude, but you do seem to have rather pedestrian and sentimental taste in film.

That does not look like a movie I would ever watch.

I must have recommended a stinker for you at some point mate for you to avoid a movie simply because I liked it 😁

I thought it was great. Probably not in the same class as Clueless, but still very good

I thought it was great too, and I watch all types of movies (although probably not some of the stinkers @Kruse deliberately watches or @Tim's too cool for school random 80s movies made for tax breaks). Sign swearing is hilarious.

    Should have remained 'lost'
90 mins of my life I'm never getting back
Woodward was the least wooden thing about it

    Don't hold back, Mike.... 😀

    Was it about incest?

    ##spoiler
I hadn't really thought about that. It could be if you see it that way, I guess. I saw it as about the strength of emotion in a single-child family and the child having psychic powers she used to destroy people - whether deliberately or not.
    ##endspoiler

In many ways the acting was secondary to the mood the film was generating. Simple story but the way the film was constructed, written and edited was astonishingly good - and makes you think.

    My take

    ##spoiler
Woodward diddled her, hence the trepidation about the door handle

The dogs (spirits) took the girl away to protect her from Woodward

Story was being retold in mixed up timeline, so missing girl & daughter were one and the same

Dogs (spirits) who saved her then did Woodward in as revenge
    ##endspoiler

Good take - I hadn't really thought of it that way. The reason I liked the film (aside from the high production values) was not only was it enjoyable, but had many interpretations rather than have it spoon-fed to you. IMHO, you can have just too many Spidermen-type movies.

    Without a doubt

Acting was too wooden for me

That’s why I never liked Stingray or Thunderbirds on TV.

You sir don't drink enough (which would surprise me), take enough illicit Central American Native trance substances, or remember the 80s.

    A Christmas Horror Story (2015)

Usual Christmas horror story anthology made above average by William Shatner's increasingly and hilariously deranged radio DJ who links the stories together.

Undemanding but enjoyable Christmas hokum. 3.5 Axe-Wielding Santa's out of 5 nuclear-tipped reindeer.

Violent Night: Die Hard but with Santa as John McClane. Decent action film, actually pretty brutal. Stars David Harbour from Stranger Things as Santa.

Now on my watch list - looks fun.

@Nepia makes sense, would have thought a film that could get that many big stars to sign off wouldn't have funding issues, also a proven source material

I'm not sure it's a proven source material to the general public, as opposed to us nerds. I think there was a lot of worry about how well it would do at the time despite having the most hyped director of the time.

I wonder if the stars got them a bit of extra money or helped them get the money?

Agreed. If you’re a Dune fan your viewpoint on the film would be very different to those not so disposed.

I tried reading the book back in the day. Tried watching the shit film with Sting and thought both very tedious. Tried watching the new flick and found the pretentiousness on the same level and allied to that was the necessity to have crap dialogue purely to try and explain the story. Had to bale out pretty early.

    What a pile of wank.

I agree with all of that. But still enjoyed it.

I can think of the plot now, her and her mate get kidnapped and then the bad guys ring Arnie who mentions all the skills he used to have…..he then goes after her and fucks up every fluffybunny he encounters on the way.

Outstanding. I should be a Hollywood writer.

Would be better than Taken 6, - the one where they kidnap Bryan Mills' budgie

    Get Out

Watched it last night on Netflix with the girl who has never seen it.

Great fun a second time around, picking up subtle things I missed first time round.

Just a really well done thriller, thought provoking and the lead chick becomes quite ##spoiler

Psychotic. I’m glad my meeting with the potential in laws went better than that

    ##endspoiler

Left with plenty of scope for a sequel which would potentially be amazing if done right.

Kevin Smith either produces gold or absolute shit. That there was awesome.
