Run rate slowly climbing up now, starting to get close to 4. So much for my prediction of a difficult start to the session.

KW is not only our best ever batsman, he's now seriously in the conversation for our best player ever

And I never thought there would ever be a conversation

A couple of seasons ago Kane scored 90 odd against Sri Lanka off 90 odd deliveries. Normally when you see that kind of strike rate you think about aggression and risks and hitting over the top. But it wasn't. It was zero risk, control, placement and precision. When he got out, there was a few seconds of silence as everyone (opposition, commentators, crowd) was shocked because he'd just looked so unstoppable. It's probably the best innings I've watched in full myself by any batsman.

@Cyclops Nicholls, though, dropped twice on the way to his century. But he got there!

I'd rate this as an 8 match innings for Nicholls. He's safe for another 8 tests.

Partnership 15th on all time 3rd wicket ranking.

But still some distance to get to the best for NZ v SL ...

Would they be if they didn't survive the dropped chances?

Mitch comes and goes for an entertaining 18.

Henry and Blundell obviously batting for an imminent declaration.

Does Nicholls get another shot ?

Unfortunately he probably will, and he’ll probably get a hundy which means we’ll be stuck with him for at least another 12 months.

    This guy 🙄

    interesting read:

Kane 3 out of top 5, 4 out of top 10
McCullum 3 out of top 10
Watling 2 out of top 10
Nicholls 2 out of top 5 both with Kane ...lol

Michael Bracewell out of the ODI series, replaced by Rachin Ravindra.

TSF's favourite Bracewell has been picked up by RCB in the IPL, replacing Will Jacks: https://www.hindustantimes.com/cricket/michael-bracewell-replaces-injured-will-jacks-in-rcb-squad-for-ipl-2023-101679121180041.html

His ODI 140 (78) in India in January probably helped...!
