As I've said before, given BR was still coming back from his injury, I thought he should have been the one coming from the bench and starting both SB and SC.

Totally agree. But the lineout tactics weren't the only dumb thing on display that day - not by a long shot.
That's loss pisses me off probably more than any other. Totally unavoidable.

Roigard passed Chrsitie long ago.Experience at the top level counts. Coaches want to know that folk will transfer their skills up - so form may not make it as easy a selction as you think.
Not defending Christie, just observing how the Coach's will probably think - a new player will have to bring another level to justify trying to get them up to speed in the environment in world cup year

This is a big fault of the current management. At times been conservative to a fault. Talent is talent end of.
In some ways the AB environment can be easier to flourish than SR. -

One thing you can guarantee, this is a kiwi rugby forum, if they name ABs next week, a good percentage of posters know it a weel early, if they named it the week later, it's a week too late from a lot of the other (or same posters).
I would think giving as many players as possible time to get ready for going away on tour etc would probably be what players want. It shouldn't make any difference to final, and AB XV is also named at same time. I have never seen other countries club comps go to pack when they name test teams anyway. -

And yet Hansen says his mistake was starting Sam W. He was looking burnt out in that game I thought.

@Dan54 Under international eligibility rules, you're right. Under NZR selection policy, you're wrong.
There's an agreement - whether legally binding or not - with MP not to select dual/triple eligible players for the ABs as long as they're contracted to MP. There's also NZR selection policy, not to pick players for the ABs that are not contracted to NZR or haven't been when they last played. Hence why TJP, Dmac etc first had to play NPC before being picked for the ABs again.
Aumua's contract with MP has expired by the time ABs play and he has a contract with NZR for next year, so if you consider playing for MP similar to playing overseas, you could argue that he first needs to play NPC before being picked for the ABs. But obviously it's not completely the same as playing overseas, because he was based in NZ.

For the halfbacks, I would select Roigard as the 3rd option as he offers something very different to Smith. The biggest issue will be who is the 2nd halfback. Christie has always worried me when we get into a grind when the halfback isn't given time and space.
I'd probably agree with Cully's three.

Nothing wrong with having a bolter like Roigard, no one abroad has seen him play close up, and he could add a little X factor if he gets the chance to play

We often hear from AB selectors that while they take interest in Super rounds the proof of a player is how they perform at the pointy end of the comp.
Will be interesting how they can back that up when the likes of Jordie didn’t lift at all for the Canes. Ardie did. He looked like an AB and tried to lift the team to a win. -
@Stargazer yep mate I realised that about NZR policy, but meant intrenational rules he could be. But he now eligible as he NZ contracted. When MP started I do know that they were allowed to play ABs, but obviously they had to be contracted to NZR anyway. He is actuallu eligible internationally for NZ, Aus Samos and Fiji I think, I know first 3 are coorect.
