Argentina v All Blacks

@Crazy-Horse when Henry/Hansen (less late Hansen) used to say it, and I disagreed, I trusted their decision making more, they had the results to back up thier decisions, Foster doesnt.
Sure he has a had a poor record, alot will largely get forgotten if he pulls off the RWC, but for that, he needs to be bold, nothing here screams bold.
@taniwharugby and I think that is where NZ rugby has lost. I'll never forget a series loss at home, and two losses for the first time. Hell, I still haven't forgiven Hansen for Chicago and the Lions. ABs rugby is dead if tests in-between WC are forgotten. You could see the hurt in Justin Marshall's eyes after Ireland.
-
Well I'll go against the grain and say I really like that backline. The only change I'd make for the RWC is Jordan at 14 when he's fit. Very happy to see them giving DMac some time at 10, and excited to see what he can do with Jordie and Rieko outside him. I hope he really challenges Mo'unga for the starting 10 slot.
BB at the back is purely an experience thing, he will be there to help organise the backline, particularly on defense which I suspect is what they are wanting SS to do more. Agree with others that I wouldn't start him at 10 anymore, but he's still very effective from 15.
On the bench, we'd have ALB there if he wasn't suspended. Would like to see Roigard there but he is very green still.
The forwards I am less convinced by. Would prefer Dalton starting at 7, though Cane has played well enough this year to keep his spot. Frizell I just do not understand at all and I don't think I ever will. Playing him repeatedly does not solve any of our problems at 6.
@Stargazer is right I think when he said some selections are about giving players from the final another week off.
@No-Quarter Roigard is still green? So do we play him now or in the RWC if he's seriously a contender? You know, when he's still green? We have 4 tests. 4. Before France. We still don't know who our best loose forwards are. Centres. Wings. Full back. 10. More than half the team.

Im with you brother. This stuff matters.

The crest on the front of the jersey is bigger than any name on the back.
And no one should be allowed stink the shirt out for an extended period of time.
That's why the legacy came to be.
Heroes come and go......and there is no shame in that.
But when its time to be moved on, move them on. Whoever they may be.

Gives the fern an opportunity to talk up Akira Ioane ?
Yeah I’m seriously scratching my head by this. For a country that historically has test class players growing on trees the drop down since Kaino has retired has been baffling.
Is it that hard to find a big, scary, skilled munter to fill the void ?
Someone should give Troy Flavell a call, he looked in great shape on that Match fit show a couple of years back.
@MN5 And while your at it give Paekak Ex. a call

At this stage of the cycle we should have a core 12 players and then time and wiggle room for a flavour of the month , a Milner Skudder type with the hot hand (Stevenson) to be the icing on the cake.
4 games from word cup and we are still fluting around with Frizell, Beaudy, Caleb.
Its an omni shambles.
Mo'unga has won super rugby 7 years on the spin??? Is that right? And he has never been properly given the keys to the castle.
I love DMAC. He could play a blinder this week....and you know what happens next week? He is either dropped or shunted to 15 so Mo'unga gets a go.
EVERYONE has been done a disservice since 2019 including Beaudy. Backrow the same.

.but what tried and tested combos has he gone with?
Ardie/Cane/Frizzel, De Groot/Coles/Lomax, BB/CC/RI.
If Telea or Jordan were fully fit and he'd picked Mo'unga at 10 instead of the form SR 10 it would be a pretty experienced & settled team. The exception is Lord at 5 and the lack of cover for 12 on the bench - so he's rolled the dice there a bit.
Not sure the 11/10/13 axis is traditionally considered a “combo”…

Well, maybe not as I missed JB from the list...
But the point still stands: the 9-15 combo apart from 10 & 14 are pretty settled and pretty much identical when RM comes off the bench.

when the AB's are normally rusty
I'm not sure throwing in a bunch of rusty players instead is the answer.

You could well be right. I just referenced a comment made by someone else to get my head around Foster's selections.

We don't seem to have a decent development plan in place do we - and not just at 6?

I seriously don't care if and when we lose this year. But, I'd hope everyone has the shackles off, play like a NZ SR Derby match and reward players in form. On that basis WJ/SS/LF/MT/SF/EN/RM/DM are regular starters.

Reckon we’re focusing too much on the ingredients and not the recipe here. Jase Ryan is coming in with a whole off-season of prep and Uncle Joe bending Fozzy’s ear. If the Argies bring the same system the ABs should know what to do but the key will be reading and reacting to anything different.

@game_film in 5 years at the helm, Fozzie is going to change things up now?
He's been playing the ultimate long game, hustling everyone with the sole goal of the RWC...

Haha no accounting for taste is there,
I think your selection standard is of a very low standard.Yep and you know what mate, it's probably as good as anyone's on here, and doesn't make an iota of difference because we never have to be proved right or wrong.
That is a matter of opinion if you think that selection v Argentina is a good one then I think you have no idea at all.Just whatever Foster does or selects is all unicorns and Rainbows as far you are concerned.
Selections that continually fail is not good selecting and once again Foster will stuff up this year like the last 3 years.
Thank Fuck he is gone for next season. He repeats the same mistakes every year.@Chris said in Argentina v All Blacks:

I actually like the fact that some of the risks are taken early, and I see I like what Ryan is trying with forwards, Lord (and I think it's because he a 2m+) , have a look at him and decide whether he or Vai'i going forward. Same with Frizell sort out whether he fits in with his game plan for forwards etc. Personally I would of picked SS myself ahead of BB , but I certainly don't pretend to know why or wherefors of why they been selected, Same with Clarke, but I also rightly or wrongly listen to thoughts of people who are involved at higher level and realise their thoughts are different from mine , and a lot because of how the game is played at higher levels.
Also think another reason for selections is because (and I don't like it) the whole season is aimed towards WC.
And it amuses me you think only Foster selects team.
I will add the one I do listen (well probably a fan of) in coaching group is Jason Ryan, tend to listen to what he says and admit will also take a shit load more note of him than anyone on any forum. -

You reckon we will know by 2025, or will we need more time?
