@MN5 departed? no country for old men? argo?.....those are going back at least a decade though
return of the king just sneaks into the 20 year target
Never seen it, liked it a lot ( I mentioned it in my post ) and didn’t like it respectively.
Didn’t like the Lord of the Rings movies on the whole.
Fuck off to GOM, classics there
Anything with Ben Affleck is unwatchable in my opinion.
Argo fuck yourself !

Started watching ‘The Whale’
Lasted about 25 mins
Anyone watch it / finish it?
What am I missing that the Academy saw?
TBF, the Academy didn't like the movie, just the performance. People I know who have seen it say that's pretty average but Fraser is great in it. I haven't seen it so can't comment.
@MN5 said in Movie review thread...:
Yeah that was decent.
That's the wokest of all the movies listed on this page. You woke bastard.

I don’t recall any midget/black/obese/transgenders in it so I think it could have been woker

Caught Bad Blood from '81 (about Stan Graham) on a vintage TV channel.
Bloody hell, what a bleak film. Totally gripping though and completely mesmerising at times - fantastic watch. 4/5

Down vote Mike. I thought it was great. Obviously not fast paced or uplifting but the performances were excellent and it was something original at least.

The Academy has been woke as fuck for as long as I can remember. Virtually every best picture winner of the last 20 years looks absolutely unwatchable shit in my opinion.
( apart from Million Dollar Baby and No country for old men )
Not sure if it's woke so much as pretentious dribble. The woke shit is bigger problem in more mainstream stuff. By problem I obviously mean "the message" being placed ahead of plot, characterisation and, God forbid, entertainment.

Just on the Whale. I'm currently dating a doctor who reckoned that Brendan Fraser wasn't really fat enough for the role, even with the fat suit. She worked at a hospital with a "fat bed" and apparently he was relatively slim compared to those who used it. Now that is disturbing!

Such a shame the Austin Powers spinoff "Mini-me, Foxxy Cleopatra and Fat Bastard: The Fluid Years" was never released.

Shakespeare in Love was ok. And I liked him in that accountant with serious martial arts skills movie.
But I'm still convinced Hollywood hates Batman (post the Burton era that is). -

But I'm still convinced Hollywood hates Batman (post the Burton era that is).Shakespeare in Love is probably high on the list of worst Oscar winners IMHO, especially in comparison to what should have won.
I don't understand the Affleck hate, I like most of his stuff (especially the stuff he directs). Actually I guess I do understand, there's actors I can't stand (like Clive Owen) that other people like yet I find him almost unwatchable.

Never said or meant to say it was Oscar-worthy.
Same for Green Book, ok movie, not Oscar winner standard.I don't understand the Affleck hate, I like most of his stuff (especially the stuff he directs). Actually I guess I do understand, there's actors I can't stand (like Clive Owen) that other people like yet I find him almost unwatchable.
Films like Argo were touted as masterpieces so if people didn't agree they often got upset. And those Batman-Affleck movies were either badly cast or just bad.

Nothing wrong with Clive Owen in my opinion.
I’ve never been able to stand Affleck. I’ll only watch movies where something bad happens to his character.
I still have nightmares of having to sit through Argo.

If you like watching a plank, then sure.

Where are you hanging out? Even when it won the Oscar I don't remember people claiming it be an unimpeachable masterpiece. I don't think there was a stand out that year so any number of films could have won.
Affleck isn't the problem with those movies - Snyder is.
Also, I never said Shakespeare was a bad movie either, just that it was a bad Oscar win.

i really liked Batfleck in the end...watched Batman the animated series and batman beyond and always felt physically he fit that vibe
I'd go as far as to say while the Nolan batman films are great....i dont actually look back on Bales batman fondly
affleck is like tom cruise for me...in that i think the actor seems like a bit of a dick...definitely wouldn't have a beer with them...but find myself enjoying their films more often than not
