My thoughts are always to be way harder on hands, and heavily penalise attacking teams being off their feet.We want to be sure we don't go too far the other way though. If it swings too far in favour of defence teams won't want to attack with ball in hand.

@Bones this, we see all the time defending teams pinged for not supporting their own weight when going for the ball but the attacking team just pile on top of the tackled player to protect it

@Kiwiwomble I actually only recently tried to figure out if it's actually illegal for an attacking team to collapse a maul. I'd just always thought it was, but couldn't actually figure it out. Is it?
I guess it's a tough job being a ref.

let teams sack mauls, you want to maul it? you better have perfect technique and if you can survive a sack then you're going to have a numerical advantage because the defending team has guys stuck on the ground

It will look like sour grapes but I felt today was a particular low point in the game.
Post World Cup they need to revamp it. The nadir was embodied by the following:
Players in conjunction with physios going through a pantomime of feigning injury to get stuff looked at.
Props going down "injured" while they have a player in the bin. You can set your watch to it.
60 minutes to complete 40 minutes of play.
4 cards.
Some "held up" tries not looked at that should have been.
Moodie and Jordans tries should have stood for me.
Nit Picky refereeing that set the stall out early doors, but was then was abandoned as the game went on.
I cannot have anyone convince me that tonight a good product was served up.
110 pounds ticket price to watch that.

the 'team yellow concept' needs to be reviewed. Barrett's first yellow was not a stone wall yellow card offence in and of itself, but he takes a yellow for the team. This yellow should not then be tied to the player, but to the team.

Lol defending Barrett. Yes it was a team yellow but he individually was responsible for 3 of those penalties. Two were dumb as fuck.
And I would have been happy with a straight red for diving straight on to the back of someone's neck.
Fuck him. Deserved anything he got. Dumb ass

People knocking the state of Rugby or Test Rugby, consider this. Yesterday’s game sold out with 82,000 tickets purchased in a neutral venue with punters paying at least £110 a ticket.
The gate was bigger than NFL achieves at the same venue, bigger than concerts at Twickenham by Beyoncé, Depeche Mode and Metallica at the same venue in the last decade.
Even if what you saw last night wasn’t your cup of tea, be aware there is an enormous international audience who will have loved it.
