So I watched The Artist this afternoon to round off the 2010s. Decent enough movie, but, I can't stand the constant music, it was doing my head in. I don't think I would have liked the silent era although maybe I'd be used to the music if it was the only thing I knew?

i shall play. I suspect I'll be the least watched, which is odd as I love a good movie. Although I tend to find now watching movies is a brilliant way of going to sleep.
20/30s - 1 (gone with the wind)
40/50s - 1 (bridge on the river kwai)
60s - 1 (sound of music)
70s - 6
80s - 2
90s - 9 (not seen the English patient as bud told me is sucked)
00s - 8
10s - 2
20s - 1So thats 31 in total. Equal with Kruse!

I found that one pretty forgettable, TBH.
I found it really bad.

except Out of Africa.
I think I'm a bit of a completist so will likely end up watching it some day.

It was slow to the point of being glacial. Wasn't awful but I could never watch it again.

There's a decent war movie amongst the slow moving shit.

OK Hashtag metoo
1920s - 0
1930s - 3
1940s - 3
1950s - 6
1960s - 10
1970s - 9
1980s - 5
1990s - 8
2000s - 5
2010s - 1
2020s - 050 in total. Not too shabby, but 6 over the last 20 odd years is a reflection of just how unappealing things have become.
For me anyway.

How about Upgrade (2018), it was a surprisingly fun little movie, even for people who don't really enjoy action movies (I don't - most of the time). Really neat camera work in the action scenes.
Bit uneven for me, had some good bits though.

I'm still amazed Basketcase(1982) wasn't even nominated! It had everything, mutant powers, siamese twins, circular saws...
-
I'm a bit of a movie aficionado and like (badly) dissecting films so have probably watched most of them all from 1930 to now, but I've actually given up watching a lot of the winners in the last decade - the last good one being Spotlight.
How Parasite beat 1917 is beyond me. It's almost as if Hollywood has become self-flagellating and expects us to join in.

Parasite is a better movie than 1917. (I like them both).

That's a great comedy horror film. There's a rich vein of similar offerings in that period - Alligator, Blood Beach and the original Evil Dead of course - to watch.
If you want to go really, really disturbing, check out David Lynch's Eraserhead. Both brilliant and unsettling.

I always seem to miss that one. It's on my radar.

I saw one of the director's other films, The Host, years ago and really liked it so searched for a few more and they were great (Memories of Murder is brilliant, brilliant, brilliant).
Bur Parasite did nothing for me which was a shame.

Memories of Murder is great, I don't watch horror so haven't seen The Host.
