I'm still amazed Basketcase(1982) wasn't even nominated! It had everything, mutant powers, siamese twins, circular saws...
-
I'm a bit of a movie aficionado and like (badly) dissecting films so have probably watched most of them all from 1930 to now, but I've actually given up watching a lot of the winners in the last decade - the last good one being Spotlight.
How Parasite beat 1917 is beyond me. It's almost as if Hollywood has become self-flagellating and expects us to join in.

Parasite is a better movie than 1917. (I like them both).

That's a great comedy horror film. There's a rich vein of similar offerings in that period - Alligator, Blood Beach and the original Evil Dead of course - to watch.
If you want to go really, really disturbing, check out David Lynch's Eraserhead. Both brilliant and unsettling.

I always seem to miss that one. It's on my radar.

I saw one of the director's other films, The Host, years ago and really liked it so searched for a few more and they were great (Memories of Murder is brilliant, brilliant, brilliant).
Bur Parasite did nothing for me which was a shame.

Memories of Murder is great, I don't watch horror so haven't seen The Host.
