Looks like is Laghlan McWhannell is leaving the Chiefs. Hopefully he's not leaving NZ. Could definitely have been an AB if not for all the injuries.

There's been rumours that he's joining the Blues

@akan004 Have you read something today? Apart from the Highlanders, news from the other teams has gone quiet.

Not really an exodus, as he was playing in Oz, but Taleni Seu has signed with Toyota Industries Shuttles Aichi in Japan. That's the same club Freddie Burns will play for.

Both Joe Maddock and Ben Franks have been appointed as Mitsubishi Sagamihara Dynaboars assistant coaches. Maddock as their attack coach and Franks as their forwards coach. I assume they're the replacements of Carl Hoeft and Shaun Webb, whose departure was announced a while ago.

Another maligned player who can use the world cup as an opportunity to say goodbye on a high

Did you only find out today that Frizell is going to Japan?

It was already announced in December 2022 that he had signed with Toshiba Brave Lupus.

Mitch Hunt has signed with Mie Honda Heat.
That's also the new club of Waimana Riedlinger-Kapa and Tevita Li.

Did the writer of this article have some sort of bet on how many times he could shoehorn the word “Kaino” into an article ?

@cgrant Across the top 3 divisions, I think there will be about 35.

Does anyone know this young player? Is this a loss to NZ rugby (for the future)?

According to the Legend of Marty Banks' instagram, he co-captained Nelson College 1st XV in 2022. So he's really young and because he's going through Vannes' academy, he'll be regarded as a French player (JIFF) if and when he starts playing in the senior competition (Pro D2 in Vannes' case) in a few years. If he's really good, he'd qualify for France. This is exactly the pathway they also use for their French U20 squad: recruit players far and wide for their academies and make them France eligible (by that the time he'd qualify for a French passport as well), circumventing all rules limiting the use of foreign players.

Not even close to being good enough. He wasn't even in the Wellington NPC starting 15 last year. But hope he does well.
