@Kiwiwomble Yeah, it was a comment I overheard, so I couldn't ask any questions. I don't know whether it's true, but if it was a shortage of players across the board, they should probably have moved some 2nd XV players to 1st XV, some older U15 players to 2nd XV and not play U15s. Or merge their 1st and 2nd XV teams.

If it was just a shortage of frontrowers, you'd think they would convert some bigger loosies or midfielders into frontrowers.

@Stargazer yeah, because i dont imagine they were dropping to 12, they'd have 2 extra loosies saying theyre front rowers but because they dont have the third then they have to go golden oldies

Controversy has surrounded the result of a national schools rugby knockout match.
The Feilding High School first XV lost 43-35 to Scots College in their Hurricanes semifinal in Wellington on Saturday, but it is understood an appeal was lodged over the result and the outcome overturned.

@Bovidae That sounds like the right decision. Not an ideal preparation for the final for Feilding, especially because they now have wait whether Scots appeal the decision and if they do, the outcome of that appeal. I hope it gives them extra motivation.

I was amazed to read how little FAHS and PNBHS have played each other despite being from the same province.

The final decision over Scots will be determined at a hearing tonight.

The uncertainty won't be helping Palmy either.

@Bovidae I don't think it matters much for Palmy. They'll be focussing on their own game, regardless who they'll be playing. If anything, this benefits them, because they are the only finalist with a proper preparation because they're 100% certain they'll be playing.

So Scots have only been given a written warning. They better find some props before the PNBHS game.

That's bullshit. They gamed the system and they've gotten away with it.

Absolute nonsense. Scots have literally cheated in a semi-final and got away with it.

It appears so. Poor from the NZR panel to overturn the decision. Everyone will be hoping that PNBHS smash them in the scrums, and that the ref isn't fooled.

@Bovidae I never thought I'd support Palmy Boys, but Scots simply don't deserve to be in the Hurricanes Final, let alone the Top 4. I feel for those Feilding boys, who've probably trained all week, just in case, and now their season is suddenly over and the cheating school goes through.

Palmy had the edge over Napier in the scrums I saw last week (got there just after half time) and the Napier scrum is usually pretty good so the Palmy pack must have something going for them judging by that performance.

You have to feel for FAHS now.

It is with great pleasure we announce that Palmerston North Boys' High are the Hurricanes 1st XV Champs. We were advised this evening that their opposition tomorrow was unable to field the required number of trained front-row players so have regrettably had to withdraw their challenge.

@Bovidae What the heck? Why couldn't FAHS just take their place in the Hurricanes Final? They have trained all week, awaiting the outcome of theirs and Scot's appeal! Scots really f*cked them over. They probably knew all the time they couldn't field enough frontrowers. They didn't need to appeal. If they hadn't, the decision on FAHS appeal would have stood and FAHS would have played the Final against Palmy.

@Stargazer Yeah, it's messy. Neither PNBHS or FAHS would need to travel for the Top 4 so they could have played on Sunday/Monday.

Just left watching Westlake boys beat sacred heart 32-31. They led by 15 with 15 to go after being down 14-8 at HT but let sacred heart back in to it.

Back to back blues champs for Westlake!
