@Bovidae I'm glad they're picking this up. It's frustrating that Sky is so Auckland-centric and can't be bothered to broadcast games from other parts of the country. The best 1st rugby is not played in the Auckland 1st competition. It's spread all over all competitions.

Whakaata Māori's streams may not have the same quality as Sky broadcasts (not by a long shot) and the commentary isn't always great, but at least they're showing us the games. I've really enjoyed watching the Super 8. I honestly hope they'll be showing all boys and girls games. It's only 8 games. If they can't stream them all, then they should drop both games for 3rd place.

@Stargazer Typically they only used one camera and a local commentary team for the Super 8 games, but did have an extra camera for the Super 8 final and an off-site commentary team. I've no idea who that was, as I haven't watched the stream. They should be able to get some knowledgeable commentators (voluntary or paid). Talking to some of their crew it all comes down to the budget for that particular game.

@Stargazer I'd like to know if Scots had to play with 14 players as this appears to have been a calculated move by the coaches. If they do keep their win over FAHS they need to have this sorted before playing PNBHS or default.

thats a bit mad, part of me says you shouldn't be able to play if you dont have the front row reserves, i get it if you have several injuries during the game and then drop to 14...but if they know before then they can train for a different game plan, anyone know when they have to post team lists?

@Kiwiwomble If schools post line-ups at all, they usually do it the day before the game, but I've also seen schools post them in the morning. I don't think they're bound by the same rules as senior teams.

Yeah, a school like Scots should be able to have some 2nd XV props ready to go. If it's true that they didn't have reserve props then they should forfeit this win.

@Nepia From what I've heard, Scots' 2nd XV and U15 teams have played uncontested scrums all season!

wow...if you dont have the players...you're playing a different game, so they can just field 3 extra loosies and play a completely different game plan to other teams

@Kiwiwomble Yeah, it was a comment I overheard, so I couldn't ask any questions. I don't know whether it's true, but if it was a shortage of players across the board, they should probably have moved some 2nd XV players to 1st XV, some older U15 players to 2nd XV and not play U15s. Or merge their 1st and 2nd XV teams.

If it was just a shortage of frontrowers, you'd think they would convert some bigger loosies or midfielders into frontrowers.

@Stargazer yeah, because i dont imagine they were dropping to 12, they'd have 2 extra loosies saying theyre front rowers but because they dont have the third then they have to go golden oldies

Controversy has surrounded the result of a national schools rugby knockout match.
The Feilding High School first XV lost 43-35 to Scots College in their Hurricanes semifinal in Wellington on Saturday, but it is understood an appeal was lodged over the result and the outcome overturned.

@Bovidae That sounds like the right decision. Not an ideal preparation for the final for Feilding, especially because they now have wait whether Scots appeal the decision and if they do, the outcome of that appeal. I hope it gives them extra motivation.

I was amazed to read how little FAHS and PNBHS have played each other despite being from the same province.

The final decision over Scots will be determined at a hearing tonight.

The uncertainty won't be helping Palmy either.

@Bovidae I don't think it matters much for Palmy. They'll be focussing on their own game, regardless who they'll be playing. If anything, this benefits them, because they are the only finalist with a proper preparation because they're 100% certain they'll be playing.

So Scots have only been given a written warning. They better find some props before the PNBHS game.

That's bullshit. They gamed the system and they've gotten away with it.

Absolute nonsense. Scots have literally cheated in a semi-final and got away with it.
