Without reading what everyone else has said:

Turned up to a pub in Malaga after ~10 minutes had already been played.

ABs slow to respond to refereeing the defensive side. Putting themselves under unnecessary pressure gifting the SAs opportunities. Jacobson clearly not a blindside's arsehole at Test level.

Ridiculous interpretation to gift a red card for Scott's cleanout at the ruck.

Too many loose passes without looking hurt us. To compound this our set piece looked remarkably dreadful.

Ultimately from the perspective of a supporter surrounded by Irish, Australian and South African supporters; this was an astonishing failure. The only saving grace is that we've a fortnight to address the glaring issues, namely:

    1. Inability to defend without giving up penalties.
    2. Weakness at the set-piece, especially the lineout.
    3. Passing without looking.

I don't see this as the fixture that permits us to win a fourth WC, but it may be enough to permit us to get beyond a quarter final.

34 minutes in, that's what I've noticed. Especially looking for the offload around their own 22. Idiocy.

      @Duluth

agreed very disappointing,we reverted back to the bad days of the last 3 years.
I was hoping we were making progress but it looks like we are back to the shit days.

@NTA That Second Try was an absolute shocker. Sheer lunacy to try and play like that near our own line.

Our guys seemed to think it was some sort of Barbarians game. South Africa had come to play a Test match.

@Duluth Is Ryan locked in for the next coaching panel? If the forwards perform as poorly as that it the World Cup, there is no way NZRU should retain his services with the national side.

And equally as bad on the field when the players are looking around for real leadership from the captain and all they see is Cane looking like a possum in headlights, again.

@BerniesCorner I really can’t see us coming back against a half decent side (and South Africa are a lot more than that) if we only have 14 men.

Stopped watching after the RC. I'd seen this film before. If everything goes 100% right then this team can beat anyone, but are royally fůcked otherwise. Whatever happened to booting the shit out the ball when camped on your line? To win the RWC you have at least one game that's a trench warfare grind fest. I cannot see this team winning a game like that.

Look at the 2015 semi as a case in point.

A Whitelock line out steal and a Carter drop goal won the game. And that was our team of GOATS.

This rabble are going to have to go on a mighty ducks style tear to get this over the line.

Without digging out any of them in particular you can see the team is devoid of thinkers.

There are too many loose canons in that team.

I understand those wanting to defend S Barrett. He's been good this year and mostly shelved the brain farts.

But that dive into the ruck - which was already decided mind you, and on which he would have zero effect - with a leading shoulder was the pinnacle of fucking idiocy

That may be the "saving grace", that they didn't treat it as a legit test and got hammered accordingly. But if so that's a very sad reflection on the ABs these days.

Quick stat look shows we only won 66% (10/15) of our lineouts. Fuuuuck.

We tackled at 83%. Won't win like that.

Apparently, 554 metres run for SA and 474 for us, why so close? 98 for Roigard making that looking much better than it should do.

                          DeGroot conceded 5 penalties. Ouch.

ALB stat line: 1 pass, 2 runs, No metres, 1 turnover, no tackles made, 1 tackle missed. Not exactly the impact we are looking for from the bench. Sadly, I don' think there are other options that provide enough cover.

                              Haven't read the thread

I assume everyone is taking the advantage to blame this on Ian Foster

That's deluded. This is 100% an individual performance issue. The players let themselves down very fucking badly tonight. Very fucking badly. Dumb fucking penalties, missed tackles, missed ruck assignments, dropped balls. Have a look in the fucking mirror boys because you let your coaches down today.

oh, something that seriously pissed me off, Vermulen in that opening passage, feigning injury to avoid a pen for lying on our side, then several minutes later we get pinged for the same thing (sans pretending we were injured)

                                        Smashed physically, absolutely smashed.
Jacobson, and savea and even Cane unable to stop momentum in the tackle. Every ruck.a mess because they hit them and we didn't. No power running. In the 2nd half everyone delegated first phase running to Sam fucking Cane, that's awful.
Then off the back of that Barrett and mounga got in each other's way and shovelled shit.
Jordie is dumb. Reiko didn't see the ball and if he did also shovelled it.
The bench came on and made everything worse.
                                        Sloppy. Error ridden and embarrassing.

Its easy in hindsight but dropping Finau looks a mistake.

                                          Vaii is powder puff.

I still don't have an opinion on Jacobsen....has he been given a fair shake?

                                          Lord looks better than Vaii.

Id even be looking for a Blackadder sized hole in the squad somewhere.

Bringing 5 wingers looks like insanity when you bear in mind Beaudy is the teachers pet.
