This thread is really confusing. Apparently, there is an Auckland School called Grammer. Apparently Blackadder can spend 2 years out of the ABs with injury, nurse himself back to health, abstain from booze, and get kicked out of the QF for returning late one night: one giant teetotalling, injury replacement foodbill. And to cap it off, he was selected for his dedication and tireless workrate. What a jagged little pill to swallow!

I guess he just didn’t fit in with the rest of the alcoholics in the squad. They frowned when he said no to bourbon on his cornflakes each morning

        Yes

        Your assuming grog was involved

So @Machpants' and @MN5's assumptious grog was involved? Stop it, you two!

Who the hell calls it ‘grog’ in this day and age ?

I don't know anyone who calls it that, so it must be fun sober people.

This stuff happens, pretty shitty timing this time around. A couple of players were rumoured to have been out late during the Irish series last year - one's name circulated.

Obviously the drinking part is all speculation, these guys coulda been to a movie, dinner, top golf etc and just been late to breach the rules.

Think you’re being generous mate. Surely if you go for dinner and you’re going to be 30mins late cos you can’t get an Uber, you flick a quick text to Foz and you’re still in the selection fold?

Either they were really late, out of contact, or on the booze I reckon

Or, maybe Foz was always going to play LF for this game and the curfew is a ruse. Maybe Foz even had LF get skinned by that Uruguayan just to mess with the Irish heads, the same way he’s been playing Roigard lately.

                        @Dan54

Fair enough mate, the one thing ST brings is ability to get over the gainline and dominant tackles.

Ireland have a well oiled system that is functioning very well.

If you look at the Scotland game they had a tone of ball and made a lot of metres which didn’t result in points. This is mainly to Scotland not being able to stress the Irish system enough to really hurt it. They were very good at being able to repel it.

My point is we need to be able to get over the gainline in order to be able to put pressure on Ireland defence and Sami T is the best hooker at doing that and he will certainly be more effective at that than Dane Coles.

Yep the thing with ST, I don't really recall him getting over the gainline very much this year, he certainly (even for Chiefs) probably hasn't crossed gainline as many times as he has missed lineout targets this year? Not sure if it's second year syndrome or whatever, or teams are more aware of him, just hasn't carried like last year etc.

Yeah I don't think ST has been as effective this year, Super Rugby included. Hopefully in time he will recapture last year's form, but I do wonder if last year was a blip where he seemed to come out of nowhere. I don't recall many people, even Chief's supporters, talking him up prior to selection. Very happy to be proven wrong of course.

@Crazy-Horse I rated him big time, even the year before, but he needed to sort out his throwing, which he did brilliantly last year and got selected, only to be ignored.

Hah fuck imagine the howls from those that said Rieko isn't a centres arsehole because he has no vision and doesn't/can't pass, when they're confronted with someone who just passes to random places on the field.

As were Israel Dagg and Cory Jane days before 2011 RWC Quarterfinal. The difference was they weren't dropped.

Except they never actually broke the rules, it just wasn't a good look. There was no policy on drinking, not was there a curfew in effect at that time. In addition the leadership group make these calls, not Foster, unless he has changed things

I call bullshit. Why do you say this? Because that's what they did over a decade ago or you actually know somehow?

How retarded would a coach have to be to let the "senior leadership" to select the team for the biggest game of his career.

                              Oh yeah, maybe you're right.

It'll be not learning the 'learnings' 🤮. It'll be lack of leadership when it gets tight. It'll be the lack of discipline when our stupid short kicking game puts us under relentless pressure. It'll be the lack of nous when it comes to pushing and working the ref.

On a roll fella, bull puckey again! Smith goes down before 50 minutes and we're absolutely rotisseried. We'd at least have a chance if Roigard was there to take over.

Well that is true, but if he doesn't go down (which is much much more likely) then it won't matter that much. Unless it does cos we are close and no way is ginger going to help

Saw the team named earlier, so grabbed some popcorn and settled into some Ferning this evening. It hasn't disappointed so far. Fucking hell that's some build up to the quarter.

Also, fucking Christie? What the fuck? Make me look like an idiot praising you for the introduction of Roigard (which has been good TBF), but to go back to Christie at the last minute? That makes absolutely zero sense.

Oh, and boy will the Irish be pleased to see LF on the wing again. They had some fun with him last time.

Yeah, go the fucking ABs, but fuck me we are not helping ourselves with sections like this.

Always a fun part of the day when @Bones wakes up and throws out a flurry of posts from the shitter before he’s had his first coffee
