Cane and Jordie more deserving IMO

I really don't think any of them give a fuck, TBH. Least of all Cane.

Bollocks. Ardie was massive. The motor on the man is unbelievable. Cane steeped up but Ardie does this shit every time he plays.

Eh? I was making the point that neither Cane or Ardie would be worried too much about who got MoM.

yep sorry, bit to much to drink.

I just watched a replay and I was still nervous at the end

I know what you mean. The 2011 final still gives me the heeby-jeebies.

But this one I've watched twice and i just have this feeling of calmness... dunno why ...

Lets take a moment to pay tribute to this Irish team.

What a side! You don’t win 17 games on the spin without being bloody good. They gave us a massive scare yesterday and could easily have one despite the heroics of Cane, Savea, Scott Barrett, Lomax. All of the All Blacks really.

They must be one of the most organised teams I’ve ever seen. Not far off Australia under Macqueen or England 2003.

They didn’t fade in terms of fitness. Their conditioning team had done an outstanding job.

I can’t think of many teams from the British and Irish Isles who were so comfortable and confident with the ball in hand. Maybe the 1997 Lions?

Their weaknesses turned out to be their lineout and not being willing to take risks under pressure. 36 phases at the end there but they never chanced their arm. Nothing like Nonu or Cruden outrageous offload in a near reverse situation in 2013.

Mental skills saw the ABs through that one. Last night was very much part of Gilbert Enoka’s legacy.

Not getting ahead of himself either:

“We played an 80-minute game with two yellow cards. That speaks volumes for the team,” added the gifted No 10. “The next challenge is how consistent can we be? Can we put in back-to-back performances? There’s fire in everyone’s belly in wanting to fulfil the potential of this team. If we do that the outcome is to win the World Cup, and that’s what we want.”

Been out all day. Saw the last 5 minutes this morning so nice to get time this afternoon to get a look at the rest.

ABs first attacking raid going 29 phases without incident is pretty good.

Ireland's lineout and ruck are nervy.

I thought Barnes got the first scrum wrong tho - ABs THP folded in for me

Look at porter, he knew exactly what he'd done, didn't even give it the regulation prop head shake.

I’ve been banging on about their props cheating since the AB series. Welsh URC fans have been doing it even longer.

And from ground level it was plain as day - every fucking scrum Porter steps out and hinges to avoid the contest.

By the middle of the second half even the Irish around me were wailing - fuck me he’s done it again.

Barnes had a pretty good shift. But it’s still baffling how it took so long for a ref to punish the Irish scrum. Because it isn’t subtle. Any more than their ruck work and Barnes largely let that go. So it was plenty ironic when the Irish were moaning that he swallowed his whistle in that final stretch.

As if the ABs hadn’t been on the other side of Barnes just letting the teams duke it out.

That final set of Irish attacking phases demonstrated that we'd clearly put some work during the week into Barnes' reffing - well behind the offside line, getting into the ruck without getting off our feet and clearly in the way of the ball, and then going for it when the Irish ball runners were clearly disconnected from their cleaners - really amazing stuff reminiscent of the defensive effort in the 2011 final

People are saying Ireland did not play to their potential, I tend to think the ABs had a lot more to do with it.

First we dominated the scoreboard which caused the Irish to chase the score, no way any northern hemisphere side turns down so many shots at goal.

We denied the Irish one of their biggest weapons and that is ruck turnover or penalties at the ruck. In fact it was the opposite with us getting many more jackels and penalties.

We denied the Irish set piece platforms as they did not have a single scrum feed and we stole a few lineouts. Our ball control was next level.

Wayne Barnes actually helped us more than we thought even though he missed a lot. The fact the Irish received 5 penalties early for ruck and scrum infringements set the tone that they could not flop on the ruck or try anything at scrum time.

We also handled their dummy runners pretty well with only a few clear breaks. JB, RI are very good defensively and they had a forward always tackling Aki.

Now we also put ourselves under a lot of pressure by stupid clearing kicks and poor exits. This has to improve. The Irish also made so many easy metres down our left hand side, it was scary how they got over the gain line.

I truly believe the coaches and players really executed their plan to perfection and perhaps Fozzie needs more credit but I can’t help but think Schmidt was the brains behind the plan.

I've been thinking about this. We've Al been bemoaning the ABs passive defensive system with teams just peeling off meters with ease. Whilst not ideal, I think it was how they managed to defend the Irish back play. Rather than rush and commit to the wrong man, they hung back, let the Mics do their move then hit. I don't think Barnes called an offside penalty against us and I don't think the Mics scored from their back play.

Lots of shades of 07 in this match.

So much better being on the otherside of the “shock” result.

Yes and no - agree in the sense of parallels between Ireland now and the ABs then, but disagree in the sense that Ireland cannot feel hard done by in the same way that we could in 2007. I had very 2011 vibes at the end there when we were defending with fantastic cohesion and discipline and they were just going through the motions waiting for a gift from the referee (and having typed that maybe I can now see the parallel with 2007)

First we dominated the scoreboard which caused the Irish to chase the score, no way any northern hemisphere side turns down so many shots at goal.

Just wanted to pick up on this - lot of stereotyping of Ireland being a "NH team" before, during, after. Taking the 3 isn't what they do, they aaaaalways go for the lineout. I don't know if enough credit is being given to the ABs early in the match just ripping into them when they tried it, on two separate occasions I think? 3rd occasion they took the 3 - that was absolutely huge and could be pointed to as the moment they cracked mentally.

Something I forgot to mention yesterday - I don't recall seeing fitzy close to as patriotic, happy, excited and exuberant as he was after the game. Was cool to see.

Ah lads, it’s been difficult reading this forum over the last few weeks. So many of you putting us down, spitting on us and talking shit about our players. There has been a hint of a paradigm shift in the last few years and some of you have struggled with that and when I read the comments here it reminds me of the way people used to speak about the all blacks and the way they conducted themselves in the past. It may surprise you, but in Ireland we see NZ as the ultimate rugby team, presumably the best team in any field sport, ever. You were sensational last night. You clearly hate us but well done and good luck. Your ruck work and line speed was astonishing.
