But in the mess which is the current top level officiating we get an anomalous result.

If your game plan is relying on match officials to get everything correct you’re in trouble.

IMO the biggest errors were kicking to the corner when we should have kicked for sticks…then kicking for the sticks from far out when we should have kicked to the corner. And waiting too long to bring on DMac.

They were pretty big eff ups for sure. Bringing on DMac so late was pretty inexplicable. Makes the loss hurt even more..

But fark me Kolisi being allowed to come back on while Cane gets red was seriously on the nose. I don't think we've heard the last of that.

I think you’ve nailed it pretty much. You always expect NZ to play the most intelligent rugby, but the Saffers played smarter on the day imo. Odd, because you clearly have some intelligent players. What’s the issue? Leadership? Coaching?

There are things i would like to complain about but the reality we just didn't play as well as we needed to win, we didn't play like we did against ireland and it showed

I also just think SA wanted it more, i know their fans did, at a pub in melbourne and their fans were RABID, kiwis stood quietly at most mumbling the national anthem but the Bokke supporters were calling it out, chanting during the game etc....and i think the team played like it too...just flying up on defence when we held back and waited for them to come to us

i feel we get cards by carelessness or brain explosions, cane gets caught off guard with a player turning into him...card, scooter last week = brain fart...the Bokke get done because theyre pushing the limits, if they catch someone in a high tackle its because theyre flown out to make a dominant tackle

now thats a bad result....but i think it shows they just really want to win...and we just want to play a bit of footy

What a load of horseshit. If our guys weren't desperate to win they would have given up when their captain was sent off. Just because Saffas puff their chests out more in pubs doesn't mean our players wanted it any less.

They certainly weren't blue headed tho, SA know exactly what they want and don't get over excited like a lot of our backs seemed to

I don't know about this - the Jaapies were farking terrible in that second half. They should have gone for the jugular and ground us into the dirt, but they barely held on.

                  Sums it up for me.

That C### missed way 2 much especially on the SA side.

If Canes was a red so was the head but on Ardie.

The officials were a disgrace. Ruined the game IMHO.

We did have a chances and missed them but showed a lot of heart.

SA just got lucky with the officials as far as I am concerned.

                  Yes sour as fuck !!

If your game plan is relying on match officials to get everything correct you’re in trouble.

IMO the biggest errors were kicking to the corner when we should have kicked for sticks…then kicking for the sticks from far out when we should have kicked to the corner. And waiting too long to bring on DMac.

Agreed. But it's not unreasonable to expect the match officials to be reasonably even in their errors.

How the fuck people are blaming players for losing by a point after playing the majority of the game a man down beggars belief. The slightest bit of competence from the officials and we won that.

Both things can be true in this case mate. Sometimes the ref doesn't see it your way. But self inflicted wounds are coach killers

Nah, that denies our players the kudos for being in the game right up until the final minute. That was a heroic effort and we were utterly fucked by disgraceful refereeing.

This is another Schrödinger's cat scenario

If Smith's try had stood do you honestly think that SA couldn't have gotten points back / changed their game plan to more attacking rugby if they had to 'chase' the game?

I think you’ve nailed it pretty much. You always expect NX to play the most intelligent rugby, but the Saffers played smarter on the day imo. Odd, because you clearly have some intelligent players. What’s the issue? Leadership? Coaching?

We went away from the basic things that went well vs Ireland, such as kick your points, be direct with ball in hand

So had a Sunday session with some mates (half Kiwis half not giving a shit about rugby Aussies and foreigners) and was a good way to wind down.

Except, I made the silly mistake of watching the game again once I got home. Now I'm just angry. I've gone from it was a good game, we didn't get the rub of the green, but probably didn't impact the game too much ... to ... if I see an Englishman in the street I want to punch the fucker, that all English ref team fucked us even in the last seconds of the game.

Hopefully when I sober up again tomorrow I'll be chill again. 🙂

                                Totally Correct.

                                Fucking hate Barnes.

That was the WC final, the absolute pinnacle of our sport, with the two form teams of the comp going hammer and tong playing completely different styles. It was all set up for an absolute classic.

And what did we get? Constant stoppages for the TMO to pour over footage of a super dynamic sport, not looking for genuine foul play, but for minor indiscretions and errors of judgement by players absolutely throwing themselves around for 80 minutes.

And the result was a stop start game that included so many cards, including a red that basically sealed the fate of the game for one side, that it is impossible to tell what would have even happened if both sides were allowed to keep 15 men on the pitch.

That was a potentially incredible game of rugby between two supremely talented sides that was never allowed to get going. If that's the pinnacle, then rugby is badly broken as a sport.

The good news was the TMO stoppages allowed me to pop to the loos. Taking spectator consideration to an entirely new level.

Entirely caused by EE illegal interference. It ought to have been left to stand, because the only correct alternative was a penalty try and EE in bin for 10.

I'd say there's a clear subconscious bias. IMO a capable TMO wouldn't have said the threshold was made for a bloke that has someone turn into him, and not for someone that runs 10 metres into the face of someone else.

I also take umbrage at the discretionary use of "absorbing".

Will elaborate later, but there's a view around that Bunker really wanted to upgarde Frizell to red, and so unconscious bias cam in and meant didn't look to hard for mitigation for Cane, the irony being that Barnes could well have.

You can't give a pen try for that infringement. But I agree with Reason (ugh), if Barnes found no fault and we scored half a dozen phases later, the TMO has overstepped his bounds to disallow the try. You could argue that it was also a failure of Barnes not to know the two phase rule and disregard the TMOs input
