Alonso defended brilliantly before Perez passed him on the second to last lap. Alonso got the position back on the last lap

..and this was Alonso gap over Perez at the chequered flag: 0.053s

Alonso is a monster and it's so sad that apart from a couple of years a Renault he's never been in the best car in the field.

The work he did for Ferrari during the Vettel era in particular was outstanding - the red bull and the McLaren were generally better cars, and lotus and mercedes were about equivalent but he just got everything he could from it and was in title battles that he had no business being in.

A Las Vegas street race was an awful idea, the city blocks are massive and laid out in a grid. Honestly sometimes I feel like the management are no incompetent the sport deserves to die.

For the fans, I'd argue it's the best run sport in the world, by a country mile. Coverage, pundits, comms, all the other media around it is brilliantly entertaining.

Agree on all fronts on this - it really is superbly well done & when you attend a race, it's the same.

However, I have little time for the US GP races. You just get the feeling that the actual race is secondary to the event.

Then there's the concerns the tyres won't be able to get enough temperature into them given the forecast is about 10°

So five minutes into free practise one, the session is cancelled because a manhole cover came loose and ruined Sainz's Ferrari.

Also Ocon's. So that's two chassis ruined.
