Yeah!!!

Christ, I can't believe how negative some fuckers are. Saw a total asshole on the stuff website going "I'm calling it now - it's a disaster".

What a moronic fluffybunny with no sense of history. :)

2000 Olympics we won one gold and three bronze and that was fucking it - and it's still not disastrous.

We've rocketed to the top of the medals per capita table. Slightly frustrating that there's been three or four golden opportunities that have slipped through our fingers, but disastrous?

Imagine if you're Sachin Tendulkar. You can afford rooms full of fuck-off big HD TVs. You're a huge sports fan, you've got no job - settling in to watch your Indian compatriots, the most populous nation on earth, and so far it's nada...and most of your best shots are gone. Now, that's a disaster!

It's a bit strange. We don't do Silver historically.

To date (pre Rio) we have 44 gold, 20 silver, 45 Bronze.

I always felt that was down to having a shit hot champion medal favourite win gold, or having an awesome crack as a battler to win bronze.

It's probably the Statistics God - evening things up. :)

I'm most disappointed about the 3 day eventing - sliding from potential gold to nothing and then Toddy jumps clear in his individual round. Slightly different distribution in fences down among the team and we could have had a couple of medals - plus the Paget elimination and the Price slip. Pretty unlucky.

Maybe there's some sort of nominative determinism at play here? Should rename that plant to the gold fern for the next Olympics, just to see what happens...

Won't always work, I suspect. Take "Great" Britain as a terrible warning to the world.

Carter has been Val's bridesmaid for the best part of ten years. She has great shot put pedigree as her dad is still the American high school record holder and won an Olympic silver in the 80s before going to play NFL. She is a worthy champion who pulled off an amazing PB when it counted most.

Plus, Americans have proper out of competition testing which is when people dope (no one's stupid enough to be on the juice at championship). This is not like being beaten by a random Belarusian who has spent the winter on a diet of steroids and anvils in Minsk who then throws like the Hulk in the summer.

There's four rowing finals featuring NZ tonight:

1:32AM Men's Single Scull Final (Mahe Drysdale)
1:44AM Women's Single Scull Final (Emma Twigg)
2:06AM Women's Eight Final
2:27AM Men's Eight Final

The two Eight's teams had to qualify via the repechages, so set your expectations accordingly for those.

Up into 13th spot on the medals table. Will be damn hard to go any higher than that. Even a gold in the next race leaves us 13th

Edit: no 12th
