Movie review thread...

Saw Boy tonight and it was too much. It's a must see for all Kiwi's. I thought the dad was a bit over the top sometimes but the kids sure made up for it. Funniest NZ film ever. It's the kind of movie that will make feel homesick (if you're on your OE, living overseas).<br />

Did you see it at the advance screening for the Charity Walk?<br />
<br />
Anyone know when it opens nationwide? -

Saw an advanced screening for some cause? Not the Charity Walk though.<br />
<br />
I'm pretty sure it opens on Thursday the 25th. -
Couple Retreat.<br />
<br />
Worst. Movie. Ever.<br />
<br />
Its not funny, its horribly predictable, the characters are crap. Its terrible. An hour and half of my life i will never get back. And i will generally enjoy enything Vince Vaugn is in as well (Swingers is an all-time favourite), but not fucking this. Avoid at all costs. <br />
<br />
I wish that i had 2 extra hands, so i could give this movie 4 thumbs down. -

they really don't come much worse do they? good cast(tem morrison shows up) interesting back drop but no jokes anywhere.<br />
<br />
my wife fell asleep in the middle and i stayed awake hoping it'd get funny. but it just got worse. -
There's a Belgian movie, inspired by giallo flicks, called Amer doing the festival circuit. Looks awesome.<br />

I am keen to see this one; The Secret is in thier Eyes<br />
<br />

<br />
it won the award for foreign language film at the Academies this year. -
In The Electric Mist. Tommy Lee Jones murder/mystery. Set in small town Louisiana.<br />
<br />
Completely engrossing but ultimately confusing. Too many loose ends, almost poetic narrative(annoying) and too many characters. But you can't look away. What it could have been is brilliant but it ends up just being average. -
Question. I am getting taken to the movies tonight and the three movies I am attempting to choose between are Avatar, Green Zone (the movie, not the crappy part of Waikato stadium!) and Law Abiding Citizen. Anyone seen all three or able to help me in making a choice? <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Avatar, no competition.
-
Have seen Law Abiding Citizen, and really enjoyed it (aside form ending was rushed) but I am yet to see Avatar, and if in 3D, I know which I'd be watching!
-
Cheers for the feedback. Will go watch Avatar while it is on the big screen and in 3D. I didn't even think about the 3D aspect, the others can wait until they come out on DVD.<br />

I have never been a fan of Sci-Fi, but I saw the Star Trek movie a while back and was pleasantly surprised by it...maybe I am turning the corner in my movie tastes... -
I'd struggle to think of examples of the first part of that statement, Kirwan.
<br />
<br />
Well it all comes down to taste, but Star Trek was a very good sci fi film. Sure it's on the "fun" end of the scale, but it ticked a lot of boxes for me. I re-watched Minority Report the other day, and I had forgotten how excellent that was.<br />
<br />
Some to rattle off;<br />
<br />
Iron Man<br />
28 Days Later<br />
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (yes, yes, a chick flick Sci Fi film)<br />
Children of Men<br />
<br />
Huge variety really. I may be easily pleased, but I think Sci Fi has never been taken more seriously and introduced in less obvious ways.<br />
<br />
Oh shit, and Serenity <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -
To be honest, when my girlfriend brought the Star Trek DVD home I was pretty keen to not watch it, but ended up quite enjoying it.<br />
<br />
Ended up going to watch Avatar last night, I thought it was great. It took quite a while for my eyes to adjust to the glasses but that was no big deal. Was surprised to see the geeky guy off Grandma's Boy there but he played his role well. I wouldn't mind seeing it in 2D now just to see how the two versions compare...
