    This was HIS film, he owned it, acted well in a taut well written but low key film

    Important film. UK-produced film was in the doldrums when this came out and it's success was a big factor in getting investment coming into the industry.

    Bob Hoskins’ finest hour

    Bold call

    You made me think twice, so I went through his filmography and he has done some good stuff, but on balance I stand by my comment. This was HIS film, he owned it, acted well in a taut well written but low key film.

    Will have to revisit

    My top three that I can remember

    Pennies From Heaven
    Who Killed Roger Rabbit?
    Twenty Four Seven

    You missed out Mona Lisa...

    Check out the Johnny Worricker trilogy if you get the chance - Page Eight, Turks and Caicos and Salting the Battlefield

    @Nevorian

    Very good and Bill Nighy dependably great. Thought that they diminished a little in interest as they went on, but from a high starting point. Would re-watch.

    Thanks. Completely missed this. With David Hare doing the writing and Judy Davis in the cast list, now on my watch list

    @taniwharugby I didn't mind that they put absolutely no effort into explaining why.

    Saturday Nite With The Devil Bit different, quite fun and well made. Enjoyable.

    Likewise - found it very cosy. Made me want to watch old time late night specials.

    Beverly Hills Cop 3

    Eddie was going through the motions here, making a not very good action movie thats totally devoid of any humour that the first film had loads of. The whole thing is basically set in an amusement park for fuck sake.

    The fact they are making ANOTHER one thirty years after this effort should be of grave concern to all.

    @Kirwan

    I am a huge Walter Hill fan, so of course I have watched this. (You gotta watch all his movies up until Red Dawn.)

    Jim Steinman wrote the songs, the babe was Diane Lane, and the movie kicked ass.

    48 Hours might still be his best.
