Dallas on steroids.
Yeah, a lot of violent and dangerous shit seems to happen at the ranch and I haven’t even finished season 1

Finally got around to watching the latest season of The Boys.
Was again pretty good, with their usual 'who the fuck thinks this shit up' scenes splattered about.
Did not end how I thought it would the way it was panning out, but was a good ending none the less.

it does get a bit soap opera like....but i really enjoy it, there are some genuinely interesting side stories and i really like the setting

@Kiwiwomble for me it was just Sons of Anarchy on a Ranch, think I only watched 1 season.

@taniwharugby and i would say S1 was the least dramatic too

Haha, I don't think I got through S1 before getting annoyed and giving up.
(No shade on anyone who likes it though).

Jeepers, looks like I’m in for a wild ride.
Almost through season 2, it’s complete and utter bullshit ( almost to Banshee like levels ) but still entertaining.

"Turning Point: The Bomb and the Cold War"
Interesting look at the nuclear age framed against Ukraine and starting with WW2 and Manhattan Project.
Some good historical stuff in there, as well as weird little links.
e.g. Joe McCarthy (Communist Hunter) had a lawyer on his side by the name of Roy Cohn. When Frederick Trump wanted to give Donald Trump a little bit of help in his real estate negotiating style, he called in Cohn to bring some Hardass to the boy. Ain't history funny?

Doco or drama?
Cohn was a piece of work, a gay man who went after the gay community during the Lavender Scare (part of the communist hunt). Died of AIDs.

Mayor of Kingstown
Almost finished the first season and really enjoying it. Do recommend if people are wondering whether it's worth the effort.
Billions
Just couldn't get into it.
Same. Looked so promising but couldn’t even get through S1E1

Just finished “for those about to die”
Set in the Roman Empire probably riding on gladiator coattails, series about ego, deceit, fighting and fucking and struggle for power with gladiators, chariots and gambling.
Not the best series I’ve seen, but enough to keep me watching until the end. Plenty of nudity for those interested as well.

Under the Banner of Heaven
7 parter on Disney.
Based on an actual murder by a couple of "Fundamentalist" Mormon religious nutter brothers of their sister in law and baby niece in 1984.
Was interested as I read the true-crime/history book by Jon Krakauer (wrote Into Thin Air, and Into the Wild) a few years ago.
May be prompted to re-read it and re-educate myself in the actual back story as the writers of the series seemed to overdo the drama of their descent into madness, and am not sure the clashes between the cops with the "main stream" Church were really necessary.
Themes around the investigating cop's struggle with his loyalties to the law and his faith.
However, many of the facts of the case did get represented. And they did build in some of the Mormon's history explaining some of the beliefs that contributed to their decision to murder like Krakauer did in the book.
Plenty of improbables, like the brother/murder victim's hubby hanging around in jail acting as history lecturer, and the "rescue" of brothers wives.
And very few likeable characters, with the exception of the Injun detective, whose presence seemed more about illustrating the LDS's inherent racism built into the Book of Mormon.
Timeline was a bit hard to follow as it kept jumping back from the present investigation, to the family history to the plotting of the murders, to the history of the Mormons (Joseph Smith and Brigham Young), interspersed with random flashbacks of memories.
A hard watch, and some of it I've yet to work out the relevance of, but worth it I thought.

Thought it was excellent. Best thing I've seen from Andrew Garfield since 99 Homes

Morning all
Late to this but bingeing ahead of Season 3’s imminent arrival
Don’t know how accurate the work and social life is but the missus & I are really enjoying it

Arnold
Limited edition series about the Bodybuilder turned Actor turned Politician ( and conveniently spilt into three parts about each phase )
I’m not sure I know any bloke alive of my generation who doesn’t love Arnie in some way. The guy fucken OOZES charisma and it’s a pretty inspirational story of what he has done ( Born in Austria, made in America )
Loads of topics covered, weird relationships with his Dad and brother, coming to America not knowing English, marrying into the Kennedy family, rivalry with Stallone, friendship with Franco Colombo……
……and he obviously hit the genetic jackpot in terms of building muscle ( helped by incredibly hard work and…..er….other supplements )
The guy has nailed life but as the other half mentioned he is one of those guys just never satisfied, always some new challenge to take on.
He also came across a bit lonely in some ways too ? Not sure how often he sees his kids etc.
Definitely recommend this one.

Accidentally recorded an episode of Batman from the '60's with Bruce Ward.
You have to wonder if the makers were on acid.
