Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere. Didn't realise he'd play so many tests, or had such a good record. I mostly remembered him for scoring a double after Astle dropped him in Astle's 222 test.

    Yeah on the RIP thread.

Probably the best English batsman of his generation. A notch up on Hussain, Atherton, Ramprakash, Hick and my personal favourite Alec Stewart all of whom played a shitload of tests too.

My favourite ever England batsman and genuinely funny nice bloke. Gutted. The comments from his former team mates speak volumes. Lovely article by Atherton talking about him.

Is there no limit to the teams South Africans are not bolstering?

              Speaking of big hitting…….

Here is the scorecard when Lance Cairns went ballistic.

Not sure a player with such a modest batting record has EVER had such an aura…..

Check out the strike rates of some of the guys in front of him ? Fuck me, no wonder he had a slog, they were batting like Geoffrey Boycott in a sedate mood batting for a draw…..Coney with two runs off 23 balls, what the FUCK Jezza ?

As good as it was then...today they were all on-pace length-half volleys.
Respect for the power of the man. That Newbury bat sold well after that. I think Laver & Wood can make them upon request

By that stage they were desperately trying to not lose anymore wickets.

They were fuck all for heaps chasing what may have well been a billion (yeah, ok they chased 29summat a few weeks earlier v England, but thus was the first time anyone had hit 3-hundy.

Cricket had yet to develop the "oh fuck it" mindset, because white ball was still pyjama cricket, and one did not throw one's wicket away.

Was a depressing watch as a young teenager regardless of Cairns.

Wow, Bangladesh get their first win over Pakistan. Given their history, I'd imagine there's a fair amount of feeling there.

Pakistan started day 5 at 23/1, trailing by about 70 odd, and barely even made Bangladesh bat again (they ended up needing to chase 30). I was sure that was going to meander to a dull draw.

Not sure if this is AI generated or not but pretty spot on. You could definitely argue Langer over Warner and Johnson would bat higher than Warne and Cummins but this is an outstanding team. Not sure anyone could compete with this bunch over five tests

Holy shit. India went bananas against the Bangles. Days 2 and 3 got rained out, so they rolled Bangladesh for 233 early on Day 4. Then in 34 overs scored 285 runs! That's insanity
