Anything can happen in a final but MAGS will be strong favourites based on the 2 SFs. Hastings had some stagefright.

I'm satisfied with Hamilton BHS's season as getting to the Top 4 was a very good achievement. This SF was close.

No. Southland was your typical SI team - full of smaller white boys, and MAGS your typical Auckland team full of large Polynesian boys.

I think the final will be an exciting game for the neutrals (I won't be able to watch it myself) as both schools have similar strengths. But I would still favour MAGS. Obviously I hope Hastings wins. :)

MAGS defeat Hastings 14-13 in the final.. Hastings with a try at the end to close the gap.

I'm surprised Papali'i didnt make it. He was destructive for MAGS.

Signing with the Warriors won't have helped.

I'm surprised Tupaea makes the team and his Ham BHS teammate Poihipi didn't.

And no Tom Florence? He was injured vs Ham BHS so might not be available

Over 400 of New Zealand’s most promising rugby players will compete for glory in the Jock Hobbs Memorial National Under 19 Tournament from September 14-21 in Taupo.

Since launching in 2014, the tournament has quickly become an integral fixture on the New Zealand rugby calendar and breeding ground for future stars.

In 2016, sixteen teams will compete across two divisions (premiership and championship) for the Graham Mourie Cup and Michael Jones Trophy. In the premiership, Canterbury will be looking to make it back-to-back titles after taking out Waikato 41-35 in the final last year. The championship was just as tight with Counties Manukau pulling out a last gasp 32-28 win over Ta$man to claim the Michael Jones Trophy.

                                  STRUCTURE
The tournament is played across three match days (Thursday 15, Sunday 18 and Wednesday 21 September) with eight matches on each match day. With eight teams in either division, the winner of the first round matches move into the semi-finals of the Graham Mourie Cup and Michael Jones Trophy respectively. The losing sides move into play-offs for 5-8th place in either division. I am sitting here watching the North Harbour v Bay of Plenty match and just in the first half hour it has shown a lot of why NZ is so far ahead of everyone else in rugby. The match is being played at a fast clip with a lot of continuity thanks to fast recycling as well as some delightful offloads, the attacking skill levels are also very encouraging. The offloading skills have been shown by all players regardless of the number on their backs, helped of course by some very good support play ensuring players are there to carry the attack on. The support play I guess shows that for NZers it is almost instinctive for guys to know where they should be, when they should be there and what to do when they are there. OK some of the defensive patterns are not the best but guys this age are generally more concerned with getting forward on attack whilst the complexities of defensive systems becomes more important as they get older and progress up the rungs of the ladder. Kicking out of defense is almost an afterthought at this age and it sort of shows when used.

I am thoroughly enjoying watching these young men in this match. Helped by being played in beautiful sunny and not cold conditions, ahhhh the delights of day time rugby.
