@frugby that just means it’s more important to drop players not playing well.

Was a strength of AB teams in the past.

This is my point though. Can't hold players to standards they aren't capable of.
I think the majority believe that the starting XV last week was pretty much the best one the ABs could field, barring right wing and the loose trio.

lets say we agree....and yet we've seen changes at 9 and 10....and kept the lose trio....does that make sense?

Perenara and Cane are starting for sentimental reasons IMO, so hard to really decipher that this week.

Barrett in for McKenzie... that's a real polarising selection I'll give you that.

I suspect it is to put pressure on DMac, but also to jizz up the bench, they know they have problems there...

Fact is the ABs don't really have the cattle. There is not one player not selected this week that makes a considerable difference to this team. There is no silver bullet.

The real assessment of this team is at the end of next year, where if Razor is still showing 'Crusader bias' and the results aren't there, he'll come in for criticism.

Not in the squad, no. But there are several players that would improve things.

      Nawera for Reece or Telea.
      Sotutu
Any back for Havilli (I’d look at Lam)
Akira or Suafoa for Blackadder or Jacobson
      Plummer to actually be used

And that’s just the tip of my head.

Loosies are a huge problem. Picking too many sevens, and players either out of form or not good enough.

I don't entirely disagree with most of that, but I am not convinced that those players improve things.

I would pay that potentially Sotutu could be a good impact sub, but lets not forget he has been tried and failed by the All Blacks before.

Glad you weren't selecting when Nonu or Kaino were around.

I've literally said I'd pick Sotutu. More just pointing out that there is no guarantee he is a success like some people think he would be.

just so i am clear, your argument is, that while the current guys suck, we shouldn't drop them because the replacements might suck too?

Yup pretty bloody reliable. Always a little unsure posting it in here when you see a few names but all you can do is trust the old reliable and share it. I’ll always throw info/team details in here as I hear it as it’s yet to be incorrect info and creates some good chat.

The fern knew the backline 2 days before the rest of the world did!

do you know why the forwards weren't known, waiting on injury news perhaps?

personally i think we dont actually know some of the names not picked wont fix things...because they dont get a run...and even if they do they get dropped even if they play well

This is a common trap fans fall into. The answer is always obviously the guy not playing... the coaches watch them in training, have all the stats, watch all the games. Maybe, just maybe there is a reason why these guys aren't playing?

We know the reason. Otherwise explain how TJ gets to start, how Ardie gets to start, how Cane gets to start, how Beaudy gets to start at 10, how Havili makes the 23, etc.

The two best 8s in Super Rugby this year. Neither gets to play 8 for the All Blacks despite Ardie's form. One isn't even in the squad.

But it's all "training ground metrics". Fuck off.

Perhaps the changes make sense. Play the mogadon game with the Millennials in the first 50/60, then inject the Gen-Z ADHD ritalin crew in the final 30/20 when defences are tiring. This only works, of course, if they manage the rare feat of keeping 15 on the field throughout

Source wasn’t able to get that information other than Tuipolotu was likely back in the mix.

Fact is the ABs don't really have the cattle. There is not one player not selected this week that makes a considerable difference to this team. There is no silver bullet.

That's a very presumptuous post. With little to no actual empirical game day evidence to support

Yes they do. They have Bell. Supposedly he's highly rated. He looked good in limited minutes vs Fiji. Aumua has been disappointing. Where is he?

I'd play Bell, no arguments from me, but I'm guessing (like Hotham) they're viewed more so as options for the future. Bell particularly is probably still a couple of years away from being a proper option at test level and is only there because Taukei'aho is injured.

Aumua in theory has the goods, so I can see why they are persisting with him.

Then in the meantime you have no selection pressure on Aumua (or Taylor) and if either were injured Bell would be forced to play anyway.

If Bell is good enough to play vs Fiji off the bench he's good enough to play off the bench in a dead rubber Bledisloe.

And if he isn't good enough (now), he should be a training member of the squad and they should bring in someone who can put selection pressure on Aumua.

of all the All Black teams ever named, this is definitely one of them

Tight 5 all good. Settled and in form (i hope EdG remembers to chase with his feet when he is handing Tupou his ass this week).
Loosies? Well Cane deserves a send off, fuck you haters. He was very average last week, but short memories he was big in SA. Sititi earned his retention. I just need to get used to Savea being picked every single minute of every single test for some ungodly fucking reason. I'm actually happy Sotutu wasn't selected so he wasn't getting 10 minutes at blindside every week and this being used as evidence he's no good.

TJP at halfback is terrible. Has not earned the same treatment as Sam Cane.
Am i glad someone else is getting minutes at 10? yes. Am i happy it's BBarrett? No. Kick passes back on teh menu this week?
Midfield as expected but ALB needs to find his old form.
Reece is lucky he's been slightly better than Telea this year.
Okay so Jordan is the fullback. At least he won't kick all our ball away. I hope he's worked on his defensive positioning this week because that first Aussie try last week was embarrassing.

Aumua is lucky Sami is hurt and there is literally noone else.
I feel for Darry, he hasn't nailed his "have 10 minutes at the end and be good" role. Doubt Pat does either.
                                Jacobson is a jobber.
                                Ratima and DMac all good.
Lol at Havili. We're still picking the bench as old school reserves, there to cover injury. Wasted spot on a proven failure.

We'll win by heaps despite the Wellington curse. I just hope that we do it while a few incumbents find some form if they are going to be on the team sheet every frikken week.

Perhaps just taken as read, in his case...! 🙂

Ethan de Groot, Codie Taylor, Tyrel Lomax, Scott Barrett (c), Tupou Vaa’i, Ethan Blackadder, Dalton Papali'i, Wallace Sititi, Cortez Ratima, Harry Plummer, Caleb Clarke, Anton Lienert-Brown, Rieko Ioane, Will Jordan, Beauden Barrett

Reserves: Asafo Aumua, Tamaiti Williams, Pasilio Tosi, Patrick Tuipulotu, Ardie Savea, Noah Hotham, Damian McKenzie, Proctor

Risk at 12, with Plummer covering (or Ardie!) but a) it's only OZ and b) Havili is a busted flush - move the fuck on

Underwhelming as expected. Dalton should be pissed at how they are selecting the loosies.

Havilli is just a bad joke of a selection.

                                      Weak all round.

@Kirwan Of the 23 there are seven I would happily never see in an AB side again and another I would drop

                                      Time for a 1974 style clean-out (15 debutants in a squad of 25)?

                                          @Kiwiwomble

                                          No time for sentimentality when our form is bad, so;

                                          Cane
                                          Perenara
                                          Reece
                                          Aumua
                                          Jacobsen
                                          Havili
                                          Barrett B

Now saying I'd be happy not seeing them in Black again isn't quite the same as advocating none of them should play this weekend. That would be too disruptive, but I wouldn't be taking any of them to the NH. They're either past it or haven't got it. Patrick T fits those criteria too in an ideal world.
