Fantastic racing today. Americans still in it. The cool thing is if a boat is way behind with this design they can still win., in previous displacement designs the result would often be a foregone conclusion,

How big a problem is the breakage on Luna Rossa?

Is it easily fixed or do they have to fix it and improve it in 24 hours.

Sounds like the traveller broke. Big question is what else was damaged as the main sheet/traveller is effectively the backstay. They were lucky not to lose the rig

I'm really enjoying it so far and look forward to watching the coverage each morning.

Jimmy seemed to think they'd be able to sort it overnight, but was hard to tell the extent of the damage. Made one hell of a noise when it went thats for sure.

i think the thing thats changed for me is previously it was more dependant on conditions...yes there were foregone conclusions but we also saw dead air on parts of the courses and so a trailing team could catch up by seeing what had effected the leading boat and avoid it....these machines are just so fine tuned for wringing every ounce of wind that doesnt seem to be the case or even possible any more

What was cool about displacement boats was that there isn't a risk of falling off the foils and we saw a lot more +10-15kt days on the water and the boats could handle a greater variance in conditions. Also, if they got so far behind they could, as a hail Mary, head out to the opposite side of the world in search of wind and cum back. Boats could also get closer to each other.

Great racing today. On the edge for these boats. Ineos looks more cohesive as a team than the Italians… I wonder about the two skippers on the Italian boat, Spithill seems quiet

There has been almost zero media interest in the Louis Vuitton Cup in the UK until today.

It's going to be interesting to see how much excitement a British boat being in the America's Cup generates.

Wouldn't it be great for them to finally win the cup. For the sport too - NZ winning it all the time is getting boring

@W32 The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron has won the Cup four times so there's a long way to go to catch up with the New York Yacht Squadron's 25 wins.

Once we overhaul the Yanks, then I wouldn't begrudge the British a historic win.
