Thought Sotutu looked bloody good, but by gee hope we don't take it as indication for test team, his picking up one handed out of scrums may not be so easy playing international rules.

Stating the obvious, but Talea looked good ball in hand again last night. I do wonder about his pace when it comes to higher honours though. I never noticed it before he played for the ABs last year, but he did look a little slowish in the tests he played. I know his brother plays in the midfield, has Mark any experience there or has he always been a Wing?

@TJ Well by your logic, you may as well be talking about every side as virtually everyone has talent in their side that are prone to making dumb mistakes.

@Steve I think we are a bit lacking in all-round skills on the wings. I see Jordan, Telea and Reece all as good enough for test level (and Clarke and Fainaganuku in next tier), but Rieko is better than each as a winger, so that is his 'best' position. So, if we have a good test centre, then put him on the wing. Perhaps ALB is our best test centre, so he gets first dibs. But, if he is not there, then Rieko is next best currently in my view. Maybe Shaun Stevenson, Bailyn Sullivan, Quinn Tupaea, RTS or Jack Goodhue can change the options and pecking list?

ALB doesn't seem the same player based on his recent brief AB showings IMHO.

    Choat was bloody good.

Party at the front and party at the back, he has it all going on.

For the Blues, I noticed that Darry had a knee brace on. One of the Lay brothers had a moon boot on.

    Darry torn/ruptured LCL.
James Lay suspected lisfranc injury on the OTHER foot 🤦‍♂️

Updated the original table with a 'Total Votes' column

Ofa would jump a few places. Robinson & Akira go up, Romano & Sullivan down etc but mostly the same

@frugby The Sullivan brothers are slightly different as they played their last few years of 1st XV rugby in Auckland, and the Chiefs lured Bailyn south to Hamilton. They played younger age grade rugby for HB. They are both regularly back in HB and I don't think it would bother them to temporarily move back to HB more than it does other players who regularly do the same. Remember we have over 20 SR players and the majority of them don't play for the Canes!

Well if it doesn't bother them, why don't they? Don't forget also, with those 20 SR players, are lot of them are effectively the reverse situation to what we are talking about.

Just thinking about the Highlanders ones alone, MMT, Fakatava, Lowe, all of those boys were signed from the NPC, rather than as academy players. They were coming to Dunedin with the sole purpose of playing for the Highlanders, in a temporary sense.

For example, take Jordie Barrett when he briefly played for Canterbury. Yes he was down there to play rugby, but he was also studying at Lincoln, and living in Christchurch as a permanent base. This concept has been around since the NPC days... even pre-professionalism, when guys played for Otago because they were living there for University.

I still think he needs to run strata lines and use his big body to get over the game line instead of doing his fend thing.

At this point I don't think it's ever going to change. It's like expecting Beauden to start becoming an excellent punter.

One of the work ons that PGS was given was to use foot work going into contact. I'm sure the coaches have metrics about the best ways to get post contact metres or keep the hands free for an offload etc etc

I hope his other work on is falling over the tryline.

At least one thing we learned about BB and RM in the last couple of weeks is they can both slot drop goals in pressure situations. May come in handy in coming weeks.

Not if Beauden is shitting the bed getting out of his own half 😉

Nepo, AJ Lam, and Robinson (in that order).

Went for AJ and Robinson as my top 2.

And despite some rocks, there were some diamonds in there from Beaudie.

HM: R. Ioane, Laulala (best game in ages, perhaps the wet weather was a bit of a leveller in terms of it not being an open expansive game where he has struggled.

My takeaway was the ball skills of Sotutu is key. Can't just rush up on Barrett because he may not be the playmaker.
