@kiwiwomble they used the Australian Sports Foundation to help generate tax-deductible donations as part of that. Link in the article.

I was there 2 weeks ago for a meeting, and the shame was the local hood rats had kicked in some door panels and damaged the seats. Little fuckers.

Anyway, the good news story out of Australia Rugby this week: I managed to secure $50K in grants to buy our club some seating.

We're not a large club, and really this grant was pure speculation on my part. We weren't contributing anything to it. We didn't get DA because we sort of didn't need it, and in a couple of months we'll take delivery of two of these beauties:

Pretty fucking happy Club Secretary right here. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

You already planned club legend's names to put on them?
Or - you auctioning off the naming rights?

While I'd be pretty happy to buy perpetual naming rights... an annual auction might be a decent cashflow provider.

@kruse we have been throwing around a few ideas in that vein. Have to check out signage costs to see what the margins are likely to be.

The ground doesn't have fencing as such, so putting the signs up on the backing is a goer IMHO

Great news Nick. Well done. It should be sent out to all Subbies clubs as a case study for what you can achieve if you are aware of the grants available to you.

Pollies at every level will fall over themselves to back a local sports club. It's a great way to get their tentacles into a cohort of local voters they couldn't reach otherwise.

Community Building Partnerships are a flat amount given to each electorate in NSW, so every club that has the ability to apply should 100% do so. Most times if you are good at filling out applications then you'll be on the inside track.

@barbarian cheers. As soon as the stands arrive it'll be photo op time, thanking the State Government, as well as Parra Eels for their support (which amounts to a short letter 🙂 ) and of course the manufacturer, who are based out in Condoblin and are Aussie Made/Owned.

As a Divisional Rep on the Board I've been encouraging the other clubs I deal with directly to apply for everything where they can. It can look daunting for those who aren't confident in the area of written skills, but I know a couple of clubs already have been successful.

Then there are the really big hitters in the Top Divisions who are getting amounts like $900K to upgrade their facilities. I don't need to talk to them - they've got lawyers, accountants, architects, etc already 🙂

If it wasn't for the utter flat-out busy period that is the rugby season at amateur level, I'd consider a membership and getting along.

With the new Metro rail line in place being near my place, the ride is 2 trains + a tram almost right to the ground.

Good thing COVID has forced everyone to use EFT - changing cash at the border was the biggest hassle.

The third Test against England next year is scheduled for the venue in July so let's hope project overruns are catered for in the schedule.

First thing - Sevens. Both mens and womens significantly weakened by lack of NZ and Fiji, it must be said. That, plus Samoa skipping the odd round, has allowed some invitational teams in which has been a plus.

Aussie girls have won 3 from 4 with one bronze - knocked out of the Malaga event in the SF by Russia. Belgium, Poland, and Portugal filling gaps.

Men have done reasonably well with 2 silvers to the Blitzbokke, who are basically unchallenged at this point. Corey Toole a standout. The other results have been QF exits. Jamaica and Germany invitational teams showing a bit of pluck - particularly the latter who have a lot of Irish and English accents 🙂

After beating the Ponies in a very wet Bowral last week, the Waratahs are holding a trial match this Saturday against a few of the Shute Shield clubs based outside The Golden Circle.

                              Tickets available here.

                              7bd15530-368f-4ad5-9385-a63408fbea5a-image.png

The venue is Eric Tweedale stadium just south of Parramatta, which is home to the Western Sydney Two Blues (Parramatta). Eric Tweedale is the oldest living Wallaby and played for the Two Blues back in the day.

Nice looking venue. Love the timber roof structure.

The plan was to restore the Test fees to full amounts in 2022 but with RA still impacted heavily by COVID-19, players agreed to continue reduced rates this year but with a difference – Wallabies representatives will earn around $7500 per win and around $5000 per loss.

@machpants without reading the entire (paywalled) article, but I'm happy to support an incentive-based top-up system.

Not that I think they're going there out to lose, but some days you have to fucking question it, based on their decision making.

Weird not paywalled for me, or maybe there's a few free wach time period

The plan was to restore the Test fees to full amounts in 2022 but with RA still impacted heavily by COVID-19, players agreed to continue reduced rates this year but with a difference – Wallabies representatives will earn around $7500 per win and around $5000 per loss.

I think they're still using a system of free articles per month up to a limit.

Still a fair bit of cheddar for a loss.

I'd love to get $5k to be second best at my job.
