      Sweet, Tamati Tua made it!

Been a massive couple of years for him from playing U18s in Kaitaia in 2015 to making the NZ squad.

So where have players been dropped/added?

        NZ U20s squad by province:

Auckland (7 of the initial 13): Adrian Choat, Ezekiel Lindenmuth, Dalton Papalii, Jacob Pierce, John (JP) Sauni, Samuel Slade, Caleb Clarke / injured: Stephen Perofeta (formerly Taranaki)
Canterbury (6 of 6): Harrison Allan, Tom Christie, Ereatara Enari, Braydon Ennor, Will Jordan, Josh McKay
Counties Manukau (1 of 2): Orbyn Leger
Hawke's Bay (from 3 to 4): Tim Farrell, Pouri Rakete-Stones, Marino Mikaele-Tuu, Tiaan Falcon
        Manawatu (0 of 2): -
        North Harbour (0 of 3): -
Northland (1 of 1): Tamati Tua
Otago (1 of 2): Jonah Nareki
Taranaki (1 of 2): Jordie Barrett (vc)
        Ta$man (1 of 1): Tima Faingaanuku
Waikato (3 from 9): Sam Caird, Ryan Coxon, Luke Jacobson (c)
Wellington (5 of 11): Asafo Aumua, Alex Fidow, Isaia Walker-Leawere, Kemara Hauiti-Parapara, Carlos Price
        BOP (0): -
        Southland (0): -

The coach has done his job and sneaked in another player from Hawke's Bay (Farrell). @Nepia will be happy 😀
As @Tim already noticed, Perofeta is now allocated to Auckland????
On Twitter, Will Jordan is named as a Ta$man Mako, not a Cantab.

Wait so Perofeta missed the Brisbane 10s due to injury, made his comeback the saturday before last, then played last Wednesday, and is apparently now re-injured for at least another month?

Does anyone else get annoyed by the media immediately headlining that Jordie Barrett is in the squad. As if he's the only one with talent in that squad worth mentioning? I'm sure there are more players in this team who will eventually make the ABs; the media just can't be bothered to watch them play to notice their potential.

@Tim when they show the BLues dev sides they list some players as Blues, some as thier province.

@Tim Maybe? Although I noticed that - now that the Canes U20s and Dev team have played their final games - a full squad member like Jonah Lowe has returned to the Bay to play for his club Clive and not for the Wellington club he had been assigned to. Of course, there's usually more depth at wing/midfield than at first-five, so that could be a reason why the Blues want to keep Perofeta in Auckland.

Fidow named so scrummaging still not a priority. No Shneil Singh - our first Indian AB.

As Philpott is the coach winning will be a surprise. 😆

IIRC there were a few changes in the squad from the Oceania tourny to the WC last year.

@Bovidae who are the players to look out for apart from the usual players like jordie Barrett .
Carlos price I've been told is really talented but no idea on any others

A further two players will be added prior to the tournament, with selectors hopeful that Blues first-five Stephen Perofeta will be recovered from injury in time to join the squad.

@Whites72 Price was poached by St Kents from BOP and is now in Wellington.

I'm not too familiar with many of the players from other provinces. Of the Waikato players, I rate Jacobson. He played for the Chiefs in the Brisbane 10s and can play 6/8. Caird is a lock who played a few preseason games for Waikato last year.

Of the forwards, Jacobson, Papali'i, Fidow, Aumua, Mikaele -Tuu and Walker-Leawere were all in last year's team. Papali'i is an excellent prospect. In the backs, Barrett, Enari, Leger and McKay return.

There are quite a few sons of ABs/provincial players in this squad (e.g. Clarke, Leger, Pierce, Falcon). It's hard to know how they compare to the 2016 U20s until we see them play. As I said earlier, the tight five will be the key to succeeding.

The weather in Georgia is expected to be hot and sunny. The right 5 might not be as important as last year in Manchester.

@Bovidae @Rapido McKay was a late addition to the NZ U20s squad for the 2016 Oceania Tournament as injury replacement for Caleb Makene and wasn't in the JWC squad.

By the way, all matches of the Oceania Tournament will be streamed LIVE on www.rugby.com.au, the ARU Facebook page, the Oceania Rugby website and/or the Oceania Rugby YouTube channel. (One of these should work, right?)
