Oh yeah thought Perenara was a bit unlucky, seems Smith was actually knocked out by TJ hitting the ball into his dial! It was a falcon of the highest order. Hilarious when slowed down especially with the expression on Smith's face. I was kinda glad to see Banks come on too... Even if he did try to outdo Li on a couple of occasions.

Wasn't that from a tackled in the air? That's a completely different situation.

Not that different really. You are looking at foul play both ways and there is an expectation of care being taken.

TJP may have been going for the ball but he was also swinging his arm toward a head at pace. He is expected to judge the danger of his action just as a competing player at a high kick situation is.

Some players look good at U20 level then poor at Super level: Akira Ioane and Tevita Li take a bow (had a mare).

Others effortlessly make the step up: hello Jordie Barrett. Has AB stamped all over him.

Laumape is having a great start to the season.

Shout out to Luke Whitelock who had a high work-rate in a losing cause.

Why does Otere Black not head to the Blues?? Would be a guaranteed starter week after week...

And they both received a yellow card for it.

It was completely different to the Luatua situation where Luatua deliberately did use force.

@Billy-Tell why would a young 10, I assume with AB aspirations, go to the Blues? I read something the other day the Blues have had 23 or so 10s since Carlos, who would have been the last AB 10 at the Blues?

Granted it is an opportunity to be the one to right the ship, but a big risk isn't it.

According to my information, he's coming off contract at the end of the 2017 season. He is contracted to the Turbos until 2018 though.

BFA back a bit early I thought ... made some big mistakes.

Gardner is a truly outstanding referee.

While watching the game last night, I couldn't help but hope that Gardner is one of the 3 refs used in the Lions series. I rate him highly and I suppose it's between him, Peyper, Garces and Poite for the test appointments. Maybe Joubert is still in the mix.

I love the way he uses his head as well as the rules.

The perenara tackle and Barrett rulings were dealt with spot on.

I think I need to mention for the 5th or 6th time that Ardie was bloody good at 8. Really bloody good. With KR getting on a bit, we could be seeing a very worthy successor.

                          Hopefully that wasn't just a one-off.

Again, I'm a broken record, but if Jordie keeps this up he has to be an AB this year. He won't start obviously, but would be gold off the bench.

@Rancid-Schnitzel I still have concerns over Ardie's lack of size at the highest level. Last year we saw a drop off in physicality when Cane was replaced by Ardie. Hansen wants him to add another 5kgs and I think he may be right. He needs to get bigger if he wants to dominate at test level.

What are his stats compared to Rodney S? I agree that the physicality factor drops when he replaces Cane, but what if they're on the park at the same time?

@Rancid-Schnitzel I think Rodders was 106-108, while Ardie is around the 100 mark. Ardie will get bigger as he gets older, and come 2019 he might be the perfect back up to Read. We do need to find a back up eight though, I do agree with that. I think it's the one position where we have very little depth in NZ atm.

Ardie is just gradually moving into the midfield. Next stop will be as a 6'10 halfback.

it may not be so much a permanent move to 8 , but increasing his value by being more of a utility , particularly from the bench

Anyone else pick up Jordies issue's in the tackle. His technique seems off and was only just fortunate a couple times there with glancing efforts just doing enough. Outside of that though he has a hell of a lot of upside to him.

Anyone else pick up Jordies issue's in the tackle. His technique seems off and was only just fortunate a couple times there with glancing efforts just doing enough. Outside of that though he has a hell of a lot of upside to him.

Yes, I noticed it as well. His tackling should be a big work-on, but other than that, what a talent!
