Known as the Bankhouse, the Waihopai Valley property features a pavilion overlooking a full-scale cricket pitch, built to international standards.

Bayleys Marlborough rural property specialist Kurt Lindsay said one of the former owners, Greg Olliver, was fanatical about cricket.

Marlborough historian John Orchard said it would have been a grand mansion in its day, fitted out with expensive furnishings with room for servants.

But the buildings were in need of restoration.

The property was owned by Winegrowers of Ara Ltd, a subsidiary of the Todd Corporation.

Todd Property managing director Evan Davies said the company decided to list the property after selling its nearby vineyard to wine company Indevin.

It had owned the Bankhouse since 2008 and nobody had lived in the homestead during that time, Davies said.

As well as the cricket pitch, the site also featured a large wetlands area.

Lindsay said this was one of the largest privately-owned wetlands in Marlborough and it would make a good hunting spot for duck shooters.

The property had a Marlborough District Council rateable valuation of $1.5 million but Lindsay said he expected this to be exceeded by tenders.

Tenders closed on March 18 and there was already some interest, he said.

    http://i.stuff.co.nz/life-style/parenting/baby/77382551/Bogan-baby-names-2016-revealed

Is he a Brogan or a Jathon?

The Aussies have come up all class in this year's list of bogan baby names and can proudly count among their people some Truely Younique lifelong labels.

The annual list of "Best Bogan Baby Names" kicked off in 2014 when writer Sabrina Rogers-Anderson put up a list of names she said were meant "as a light-hearted joke". The backlash was strong, if not unexpected, and rather than bowing to public pressure, Rogers-Anderson has once again released her list.

"I believe we all have a bit of bogan in us that we should embrace and celebrate," she says. "In that spirit, I present to you the 2016 edition of my best bogan baby names list."

And boy is it special. Here's her top 10, in no particular order...

ARYAN: Awkward. Just so awkward. It's difficult to say whether it would be more or less awkward if the lucky child was fair-skinned and blue-eyed, or if it was ironically...not. You know, because of that whole holocaust thing.

BROGAN: Like bogan, but with an extra letter. In case you're wondering exactly what a bogan is, Google define says this: "an uncouth or unsophisticated person, regarded as being of low social status." Urban Dictionary takes it a step further and says bogans are "hideously repugnant and unintelligent", living in state houses with a penchant for Holden and Ford.

JATHON: Presumably the parents of this poor wee tyke have a written lisp or incredibly poor spelling skills. The ultimate slap in the face will be the development of a real lisp for the unlucky Jathon, thus compounding his misery. "Ah no, that's Jathon with a T-H."

J'ZAYDEN: One step up from Aiden, Brayden and Jaiden, this one takes the cake. Impressive use of the apostrophe.

BEAUTIFUL: Spelled correctly. Hopefully the kid does turn out well in the looks department or playground torment will be special delivery. Kids understand irony too, you know.

CHERYLDINE: Gold. The perfect fusion of Cheryl and Geraldine, presumably.

ENIVID: What? Wait. Yes! It's part three of the bogan backwards spelling trend. Part one was Neveah (Heaven) and part two was Traeh (Heart). Just let that settle in your mind.

KYLY: Assuming it's pronounced Kylie, this is a real lesson in how to avoid those pesky vowels.

TRUELY: You need the extra E for this one. Truly just doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

YOUNIQUE: The best of the best and the ultimate in bogan nameology. Nuff said.

This will excite Mariner no end - finding out his Dominatrix Credlin is exactly what he was after:

http://www.news.com.au/finance/work/leaders/margie-abbott-was-unwanted-distraction-for-former-pms-chief-of-staff-peta-credlin-book-claims/news-story/b3d3fe2da5338a40ecaeac993d9d8f95

...

(Credlin) had made these outbursts a feature of her management style going back to when she worked for then minister Helen Coonan.

A junior staffer, picked on for some perceived error, although she was blameless, was roared at by Credlin who called her “a fing useless bitch” and told her, according to Savva, “you don’t fing know anything”.

The staffer was reduced to tears, but years later it was Ms Credlin who wept when she thought she had been slighted.

At a meeting of Opposition advisers, just before Mr Abbott became Prime Minister, Ms Credlin had been told by Murray Cranston, a senior and respected Abbott worker, that one problem was her temperament, which had hurt morale, particularly among the younger targets of her yelling and swearing.

Ms Credlin erupted in fiery and weeping fury, and one witness told Savva the prime-minister-in-waiting was seen sitting on a Sydney kerbside trying to console his chief of staff.

Mr Abbott later advised Mr Cranston to apologise with a bunch of flowers, which he did with a $100 bunch.

Savva writes: “When he presented them to Credlin, she tossed them aside.

“Cranston could laugh about it later, when he told workmates that Credlin thought better of throwing them out, and regifted them to Margie Abbott, along with a note in appreciation of her support during the year.”

...

Tony Abbott once asked for a briefing so his wife knew the entitlements she might draw on, such as use of ComCars, as the Prime Minister’s spouse.

Ms Credlin was against that and was furious when she discovered a staffer had completed the task set by the Prime Minister.

“She angrily berated the adviser, telling him this was not the White House: he did not work for the Prime Minister’s wife; he worked for the Prime Minister,” writes Savva.

She records Ms Credlin saying: ‘If you get any requests for briefings for Margie’s ladies’ lunches, it’s not going to happen.”

This anecdote argues against any notion Margie Abbott didn’t want a bigger role with her husband, although she had her own family and work to tend to. But she had little travel with him in Australia, and when she came to Parliament House she was asked to wait in a room across the corridor from her husband’s office.

And at a dinner in a supporter’s house to celebrate the 2013 victory, the host was told at the last minute the Abbott women would not be attending, even though other senior Liberal men came with their wives.

Credlin’s position was she believed Margie Abbott would distract Mr Abbott from his work. But you get a sense from Savva’s book what she most feared was competition for the attention of the Prime Minister.

...
