I think his highest was 153.4 actually. Much better than Milne so hopefully he can become a genuine wicket taking threat rather than just a bowler we select because he is fast.
We already select spinners who can't spin it so fast bowlers don't necessarily have to be really fast.

The Black Caps juggernaut rolls on. Great to see Kane find form, and Southee was superb in his opening spell - sealed the match for us.
Loving the team at the moment - well coached, great culture, some depth and some world class players to boot.

Yep, good result for the Black Caps, despite a fair few soft dismissals with the bat we performed well in all 3 facets. I don't think there's much doubt that we would have won if we'd been able to play through all the allotted overs, but I do feel a bit for Fakhar who had been batting well and would likely have picked up a century in a losing cause.

We've had some dead set legends in the time I've watched the team. Paddles, Crowe, Cairnsy, Vettori and Bond ( backed up by any number of triers/journeymen ) to name a few but I don't recall the team as a unit ever being this good. Long may it continue.

Southee gets shit when he bats like Jeetan Patel - deservedly - when we expect he can bat like Corey Anderson.
His bowling is pretty damn good and he gets no shit for that aspect of play.

We're looking pretty solid in ODIs. Bring in de Grandhomme for Astle (on most pitches) and that gives us a lower order power hitter that today's team was a bit short of (though I've heard the commentators saying that Santner hits the ball as far as anyone else in the team and also talk that Timmy has been working on his batting). Those three firing together would be a pretty potent lower order. Asking Colin to bowl 10 overs on Australian pitches might be interesting, though.

Southee averages about 33 with the ball which is a pretty mediocre average. He's not quite consistent enough to be in the top tier of odi bowlers which is frustrating from a guy who, when in good form, is up there as one of the best in the world.
That's the source of the criticism I think. We watch him producing absolutely world class spells for multiple games and then he'll go a whole series where he bowls 2 or 3 boundary balls an over and lose any kind of threat and the knives come out because we know how much better he can be.

Although I do recall he had a quiet period post that demolition of England in the CWC where some (@mariner4life) may have suggested with justification he may need to pick up his game.

I could be wrong but I have a feeling old mate AH Jones got six 50s in a row back in the world series days. No hundies ( he never got one ) but they were like hens teeth back in those days.

I'm not saying he is exempt. But I am saying he tried. If he has a similar record I think that is a further mark against Southee's batting as I think Southee has more talent as a batsman.
I give more credit to Chats or Coldplay because they tried to maximise their ability.
I hear some of that but often Southee is the designated hitter and there's always risk in that style of play. Chats was gutsy and good on him but Martin was nothing short of utterly shit.
