Who won the World Schools Rugby Festival tournament? I assume one of the SA teams like Paarl BHS or Grey College.

@bovidae I don't think there was one particular winner. Each school played two games. There was no final.

This was the report of the last day of the World Schools Rugby Festival Tournament

World Schools Festival comes to an emphatic end

PAARL, 7 April 2018 โ€“ The weeklong Oakland World Schools Festival came to an emphatic end with a sold-out Paarl Boishaaiโ€™s Brug Street Stadium being treated to high-quality and entertaining schoolboy rugby on Saturday.

The festival lived up to its aspirations of creating camaraderie among rugby-loving schoolboys from around the world sharing knowledge and experiences.

The tournament featured 10 of the top schools in South Africa and 10 of the best school teams from around the world.

The final day was characterised by tight battles, the odd runaway victory and edge-of-your seat entertaining rugby.

The final schoolboy game of the day between Paarl Boysโ€™ High School and Christchurch Boysโ€™ High provided the hosts an opportunity to exact revenge on the New Zealand side.

Christchurch Boysโ€™ High spoilt Boishaaiโ€™s spotless record in New Zealand last year, when they beat the South Africans 38-36.

Revenge was sweet for the South African side, and while the score line may suggest they found easy access across the advantage line, it was anything but a walk in the park.

Boishaai brought the curtain down on the celebrations claiming a 28-7 victory over the touring side and gave the ardent local supporters much to cheer about.

The South African sides walked away with the inaugural Oakland Cup trophy, a Ryder Cup-style contest between South Africa and the Rest of the World.

The home sides will have the bragging rights for the next year after beating the Rest of the World 36-4.

Carinat Sports Marketing Managing Director and ex-Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer announced the tournament would return in 2019 from March 24 to 29 and the venue would be revealed in due course.

โ€œThe festival surpassed all expectations and it was a humbling experience to see rugby-loving countries, from the giants to the so-called minnows, share our passion for the game,โ€ Meyer said.

Paarl Boysโ€™ High vs Christchurch Boysโ€™ High (New Zealand):

    Scorers:

Hastings BHS has won its third pool game 45 - 12 (HT: 33 - 0). It looked pretty easy, especially the first half.
              Quarter Final tomorrow.

Hastings BHS has won the Quarter Final of the Sanix World Rugby Youth Tournament against Toin Gakuen High School. The full time score was 31 to 19 (HT: 24 - 0).

Here's the video of the game (it starts about 17 minutes from the beginning of the video; you'll have to watch it on YT):

In the semi-final, to be played on Friday 4 May, Hastings Boys will play Osaka Toin High School. Kick-off is at 4.30pm.

I found it interesting to read in the article below, how the language barrier is affecting the tournament.

Adjusting to the interpretations of foreign referees continues to be a challenge for Hastings Boys' High School at the Sanix World Rugby Youth Invitational Tournament in Japan.

"We had a Japanese referee today. He couldn't understand Liam when he asked what our boys had to do to adjust and Liam couldn't understand him," HBHS manager Jason Bird said after his troops completed an unbeaten run in pool play with a 45-14 win against Jianguo High School from Chinese Taipei last night.

He was referring to captain Liam Udy-Johns.

"We've got an interpreter but we can't run him onto the field. This is an issue for all English-speaking nations here," Bird said.

14 - 5 after they scored in the corner. RKS's running game is carving them up at the moment - and the 10 is a huge step down from McClutchie.

Alright I've got to head out, but TBH I can't handle watching that 10 anymore, he's so deep and has no movement. It's like he missed DC, AC and BB and only has tapes of Fox in the 80s.

Tafai needs to get him moving at halftime, and have the forwards cart it up in close instead of just flinging passes wide.

Hastings Boys suffered a big loss to Ratu Kadavulevu School (5 - 35) in the final. No shame, because the Fijian team was really good.

Must say, a lot of those Fijians were HUGE and simply ran over the smaller Hastings boys, but also, this year's Hastings 1st XV isn't anywhere near the level of last year's team. Still a few good, promising players: can't put names to faces or numbers, but some of the loosies - esp the no. 8 - looked good (the captain?), one of the locks, the halfback, and - on attack - both wingers. Agree with @Nepia that the no. 10 is a big step down from McClutchie.

Defence will have to be the main focus for the coaches. They'll also need to deal with pressure better. This was the first game that they really had to deal with a strong opponent and they looked a bit nervous at times. Anyway, I'm sure it has been a valuable learning experience for the team. Great to have such a tournament during preseason.

Hamilton BHS beat St Paul's Collegiate 31-10. It was a typical early season game with plenty of handling errors from both teams.

Rotorua BHS beat Tauranga Boys' College 31-3.
