very fucking good point M4L - too much acid

Cassidy and Kaukonen left and took their blues mojo to Hot Tuna

Kantner and Slick married and went from psychedelic to psycho and got into the whole space ships from god buzz

That song (voted Rolling Stones worst song of the 80's) featured none of the Airplane members though.

dylan wrote the hell out of some songs - and if you don't like his voice, which i can understand - well luckily for you they have been covered a shitload because they're shit-hot - to the extent that unless you're a classical fanatic then you'll almost certainly be able to find an artist you already like singing a dylan song.

His Americana/Springsteen parody, Tweeter and the Monkeyman, was brilliant. He pretty much made it up on the spot - see the Travelling Wilburys documentary.

Great song, loaded with Springsteen references and the wtf about Tweeters sexual identity. There was quite abit about the Wilburys on the Jeff Lynne doco.

Applauding Springsteen and rubbishing Dylan is like applauding the current AB's without acknowledging their history.

Sure Dylan's voice is no great shakes but similarly quoting Born to Run without understanding Dylan's contribution to modern music and particularly lyrical composition leaves you open to having one of dylans lines quoted at you "don't criticise what you can't understand"

Heres the Boss himself inducting Springsteen into the RnR Hall of Fame

I'm not actually a great Dylan fan, it's probably years since I have bothered to play one of his songs but while I understand that everyone's tastes are different and lots of people won't like his music trash talking down his contribution / legacy is just dumb.

I love early Springsteen I bought Born to Run as an import before it was released in NZ but Dylan can conjure up amazing visions too

I listen to almost all genres but have been trawling through my back catalogue recently and this was the last thing I played

Bit of a ho hum cheesy 80s song but it's made awesome by arguably THE greatest guitar lead I've ever heard on a studio version of a song. the Godfather of shred at his best......

well from my extensive knowledge of your musical tastes, let's see... i know you said you liked one artist... yeah that's it: you said you liked the boss, and whaddaya know - the boss has covered dylan.

oh yeah and you also said you listened to RATM, FNM, STP and Pearl Jam. Rage and Pearl Jam (or maybe just Eddie?) have also definitely covered Dylan.

Second post on why I 100% don't get Dylan.

It makes me feel like somebody who voted for Brexit because I generally didn't like the European Union. There's a whole lot of "experts" telling me what I actually think, and seem to be incapable of accepting that I don't like Dylan.

It's just madness. And why, I just don't get Dylan.

music is personal taste - if you don't like something you don't like it and that's sweet as. i'm just saying that i think his songs are good, some of them great, and pointing out that if you are turned off by his voice (which many people are, including me initially), there are a heap of covers by people with completely different voices which are worth a crack.

I don't like a lot of country and find it too easy to lampoon the whole the dog ran off with my best friend and the wife died thing but I can understand the musical influence the genres had.

I'm getting a sense that you're trying to be a touch condescending simply because I have the audacity not to like Dylan. I love Hendrix and I love GnR, guess what ? I think their versions of Dylans songs are pretty shit. Heavens doors, Jokers, thieves, Hurricane Carter, Tambourine Men.......I guess I'll just have to live in ignorance that I don't get the deep lyrical meaning of whatever he's garbling about......

not at all trying to be condescending. i think you just misread what i said: you'll almost certainly be able to find an artist you already like singing a dylan song.

then you said you hadn't - but you actually have - you just didn't like their versions either, which is a different thing. and that's sweet as, i'm not trying to tell you what to like.

I have actually tried with Dylan much as I pretended I thought Eric Clapton was a shit hot guitarist. Never happened for whatever reason.

You're right of course, plenty of people have covered his stuff, a huge number.

Reminds me of GnR covering "Live and Let Die" around the same time as doing Dylan.....despite loving Axl, Slash and the boys give me Sir Paul Maccas version any day of the week although that may have something to do with loving the song cos it's the title track to one of the better Roger Moore Bond flicks.

I think I've covered above already, but it's because when ever anybody says they don't like/get/enjoy Dylan, there are always posts afterwards trying to tell you that you do!
