I always thought Caird was more than useful he needed to bulk up which I think has held him back, A few more kilos he would be handy at SR level at least.

So Blackwell can get a locking spot in a NZ’s super team but Caird can’t?

      NZ rugby is odd sometimes.

@Nepia But Caird doesn’t play for Wellington so of course he’s isn’t going to get a Canes contract 😂

          From the Sydney Morning Herald:

The Canterbury Bulldogs will use legendary All Blacks coach Steve Hansen to scour the best rugby union talent across the Ta$man after announcing the World Cup winner will join the club as a high-performance consultant.

I wonder if Hansen will describe himself as an "ex-New Zealander" now?

what else would he have to do? Assistant during 8 dominant years leading up to a RWC, head coach for a RWC cycle that we dominated and (in hindsight) purred to victory on the back of a clutch of amazing players, and then 4 years which were bumpy where we just didn't get up at the end.

16 years with the ABs, 2RWC, Bledisloe Cups, RC and Tri Nations, Grand Slams ... yuo're a tough marker!

@nzzp Yep I am. Failed towards the end, probably should have gone earlier.

Don't get me wrong, I like the guy and his achievements are significant, but so are some of the failures. Great, yes. Legend, no for me.

@nzzp I think he would have been legendary had he called it quits in 2017. But his last three years makes me wonder if he was made to look better than he actually was with the various GOATs in the team as well as having Wayne Smith in the coaching setup.

Nah that was the plan which we all thought was sensible. Bed in post 2015 goat etc exodus, do the lions, then leave. Perfect sense, only 2016 was undefeated year and so they signed him for two extra years, sadly when we got to 2017 it was obviously a year too far

                                      Was thinking Needle.

My 'legendary' AB head coaches would be (in no particular order)
Allen (hearsay, before my time, but ermagerd)
                                      Hansen
                                      Henry

Smith gets in by association and body of work as an assistant.

Those are the two that I would have said.

If you look at their full body of work there is no way you can rank Henry ahead of Hansen.

Henry 85% (1st and QF loss at RWCs)
                                          Hansen 87% (1st and 3rd at RWCs)

As said, Fred Allen never lost a test match but didn't play SA in that streak.
