Well yes Mokes but don't forget we have two of our top three best test batsmen playing at the moment, reliable openers and an ever improving Henry Nichols. Gone are the embarrassing days when Dan Vettori at 8 had more hundreds than any of his teammates. The symbolic batting efforts are no where near as common as the past.....

@canefan I haven't been able to catch much of the first three days as have been busy, but Patel had it on a string in that final session, was really high quality bowling, making them play at everything without giving them any half trackers or half volleys to relieve the pressure.

Wags provides all the heart, passion and just raw fucking emotion that you want in a fast bowler. I fucking love that guy.

aaahhh, isn't that like, all of them? Certainly the memorable ones.

Being rolled by Pakistan over there is hardly a black mark though, they are lethal.

Yeah for all the criticism of the first innings performance, some of it was brought into context through the rest of the match. 153 went from abysmal to probably not far below par.

Agree, the batting didn't surprise me that much - we've never been great against spin plus Pakistan have a quality all round attack. We were always very reliant on Rosco and Kane going big if we wanted a decent total. But the bowlers, Boult included, have far exceeded expectations in that match.

I'm picking KW to stay around for awhile but Rossco is gonna leave a massive hole when he retires.

I have to admit that since learning about consanguinity, I found myself constantly studying the crowd faces for similarities.
During which I also noted that prayers didn't work 😊

Just awesome, and bodes well for the summer. Really thought this tour would be a tough ask to get even one W given what happened to Aus over there, but we nabbed an ODI and now a test win which is incredible given how hard that is to achieve in the UAE. As mentioned, what a start for Stead. Great to see Boult in the wickets too, he's set for a big summer in NZ.

With Patel, Boult and Wagner we have some really nice weapons. I wasn't paying attention so don't know how Sodhi went, but judging by the conditions it will be spin twins all the way in the next matches

@canefan Sodhi was guilty of bowling too many full tosses so his control was an issue. Of course, one of those pies gave him a caught and bowled.

The delivery that Patel bowled to Abbas that went for review was even better than his final delivery. That looked to have only just missed the off stump, and might have caused the noise all the fielders believed they heard.

There wasn't a big crowd there but the camera shots of them were so funny. Not just Mickey Arthur pacing back and forwards but of the two Paki fans praying before every delivery.

@canefan I might have been a bit too subtle there, or you're being even more subtle...(one exclamation point isn't very angry though, you could do better).

Either way, we agree, an angry Wagner is great to watch.

One of the the pleasing things was that the team was basically a Tauranga City team with a few extras.

Hesson clearly didn’t see anything worthwhile from Patel, despite his record the past 3 years

I guess he valued Mark Craig's ( admittedly very good ) talents as a low order batsman so much he was blinded to the fact he was a completely shithouse spin bowler most of the time.

Patel wouldn't be there if Santner was fit.

It's good that I can remember him for this, and not Devcich hitting 6 fours off one of his overs in the T20 final.

He took a 5fer when we beat England at Leeds last tour, including Alastair Cook. I will always love him for that.

                                          But yeah agree with you.
