Funnily enough, that was Colin's first test away from home. He doesn't have a good batting record away from home!
He's actually done better than I expected though - I thought that 1st test bowling performance might be an aberration that would, in the long run, cost us more than a single test victory was worth. I'm probably still of that opinion, but he's done well enough with the bat subsequently that he's been worth his place.
Seems to be in terrible form with the bat right now, so you'd be picking him on trust rather than expectation for the second test. I expect Stead will stick with him and hope he's going to come right.
The bowling won that match for us, while the batting was pretty abysmal, so trading in an all rounder for another bowler probably doesn't make too much sense.
The alternatives are Southee (most likely), playing Blundell as a batsman (next most likely), Matt Henry (unlikely) - or further bolstering the spin attack with this guy Somerville (who despite Larsen's optimism doesn't seem like much of a batsman).

Looking at his stats suggests he may actually be a best test player than limited overs player. They also suggest he is a terrible 20/20 player so I'm not sure why we keep picking him in that form of the game.

Some Afghan dude by the name of Mo Shahzad hit 74 off 16 the other day to win their game (while BMac stood at the other end watching). The video is worth it for some ridiculous shots, and Shane Watson's face as he gets carted all over the place.

Looking like they'll set a big first innings total. Hoping we see another collapse and dont suffer the same fate ourselves. Unlucky with that missed caught behind, def looked like a giant edge.

Back to the Dubai durge. Hard slog today, 308 for 4, run rate 2.3. 2 long days in the field to be followed by 3 days of survival.
Not a dangerous pitch, very slow, some turn but slow turn.
Could have had the best of test cricket quickly followed by the worst.
Pakistan very committed though, after last week's embarrassment

@no-quarter sessions without wickets seem the norm, at least aside from the odd collapse. Makes for pretty dull viewing. But watching Wagner do his thing is impressive af. Dude just loves the grind!!

Thought CdGH toiled hard in that first innings. Was tough all round for our bowlers, but he was probably the pick of them.
